hi all,,,

i think my kribs have laid eggs.the female has'nt come out off the flower pot for almost 3 days now and the male is guarding the entrance with ferocity. how long is the egg gestation time please!!!! and when can i expect to see some fry outside of the pot??????? the temp in the tank is a constant 28 and all cycle parameters are perfect.this is my first krib spawning so i am not sure what to expect next,,,

thanks ,

john :kana:

If its like my kribs first spawning, then what will happen next is they will give up :( apparently this is normal on the first few attempts. Mine are currently preparing a new cave so hopefully will spawn again soon. Read my experience...

If yours are successful then the eggs will hatch pretty quick and become free swimming after about five days.

Good luck

I would say that the eggs usually hatch in about 7 days and become free swimming about 5 days after that. The fry grow very very quickly and will reach about a centimeter in about a month or less. Good luck and congratulations!

Actually, Krib eggs hatch in 3-5 days, and you could see the fry that early. If the parents decide the fry need food immediately, they will carry the wrigglers around by mouth, putting them down in an area with lots of plants/algea for the fry to munch on.

"Normally" the parents won't bring them out until they are in free-swim, about 3-5 days after hatching, but I've had them do both, as have others I've spoken to.

If Mom suddenly leaves the cave for extended periods, and you don't see fry, they probably didn't make it through the spawn. Many reasons for this, but lack of spawning "knowledge" is the biggest one. This has to be learned

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE,,

thanks to everybody for your replies..after much tank watching Mum appeared today after 5 days with a brood of about 3 dozen baby fry swimming about just behind there flower pot with dad keeping a beady eye on everything else in the tank, nothing can get anywhere near his babies.well thats the easy part i suppose now for keeping them alive.thanks for reply threads, i will keep you posted as my krib fry progress,
