Koi And Goldies?

probably made by artificial means or accidently when both speices are spawning near each other.

It MIGHT be possible, but I am still skeptical.

Did you read the study? There are many like it. It is naturally occuring, though probably accidental as you said with both species spawning in the same waters. It is definately possible, because they have the conclusive DNA evidence to prove it. It just is fairly uncommon, especially since the offspring are sterile.

Lol dont waste your breath its like arguing with a stump with that guy lol

Goldfish and Koi are from different genera so they theoritically cannot breed but NO ONE KNOWS.

False, koi crap can in fact cross with the common comet goldfish, iv even found pictures.

 When I saw koi crap I laughed. I'm probaby the only one though.

Interesting thread.

Many species from different genera have been capable of breeding; in some cases, being in the same family (or more typically, sub-family) is sufficient for hybridization. Probably the best example is domesticated cattle (Bos taurus), who have proven to be capable of interbreeding with many different species, including the American Bison (Bison bison), which is of a different genus. And even though the present stance of the scientific community is that cattle can not interbreed with water buffalo, there have been some fairly promising laboratory experiments where embryos have indeed survived past stage 8; so who knows? I believe sheep and goats have also been sucessfully crossed (That would be the Ovis genus with the Capra genus).

But that's a moot point, since goldfish and koi can and do interbreed, apparently even out in nature, though the offspring tend to be sterile. :good:

No it's like arguing with someone who has a brain and uses it to reason, instead of just to put a cap on. :fun:

I think they are very nice fish :good: .

goldfish, cassius auratus, and koi, cyprinicus carpio, theororetically cannot breed because they are from different genera.

intergeneric hybrids are almost always sterile if you are only talking intrageneric hybrids they still tend to be sterile

Theroetically yes but they CAN and DO.It happens all the time with fish breeding across genera, just look at cichlids  And nobodys arguing if they are sterile or not, it clearly says that they are.
