KITTENS!!!

Bloody hell!!

I came to look at this post thinking I was going to see pictures of lots of cute fluffy kittens. How wrong was I?

fish_breeder - Do you have any pics of these 18 (!) kittens you have?! I'd love to see some and their mums of course!!

:)

I agree with 14k,
Millions of dogs and cats are put to sleep in shelters every year because there aren't enough homes for them all. God forbid we take responsibility for our actions (or lack thereof) but if fish_ could provide homes for 18 or so cats, and her first 3 were spayed, she (or her parents) could have rescued that many that would be put to sleep in a shelter.
Just because someone breeds purebred animals doesn't make them RESPONSIBLE breeders. Responsible breeders are dedicated to conforming to the breed standard. They have their breeding animals tested and most likely do NOT make a profit on them other than being able to feel proud of their happy, healthy dog or cat. responsible breeders take their puppies/kittens back from families who bought them and can no longer care for them. Pet quality animals aren't bred because they don't contribute to bettering the breed's lineage.
Backyard breeders obtain a purebred dog from anywhere- the shelter, pet shops, a friend, and breed their animal just because it's purebred.
So are purebreds superior to mutts? of course not. They, many times are healthier than purebreds, and no one is saying they arent equally wonderful companions. IMO a responsible pet owner who truly loves their pets will not breed pet quality animals if they realize what a problem pet overpopulation is.

Cranky cranky people.....opinions are opinions....I mean I have been known to start a few fights here as well...but what's the point? Do you want to end up hating everyone on the board? That's seems to be what is slowly happening in my eyes....opinions are opinions, but maybe we need to think a little more before we type...and how people are going to take what we say....words can be very dangerous with no facial expression. :/

ITA

i have to agree with Cheese here, i thought it was gonna be all cute little fuzzy balls of kittens, anyway, fish_ i absolutely love shorty  if you were giving your kittens away and i was a little closer to arizona... :D

and i have to say something, i can understand both sides here, and i can see that everyone has their own opinion, the thing to do though, is to be able to express your own with out being rude or childish.....and be able to accept that everyone else has their own and respect them for it. no one has to neccesarily agree with everyone else. just because you may be under the age of 25 doesn't mean that you are a child, some people i know have been through more at 17 years old than some people at 30. maybe my own opinion may not be counted seeing as i'm only a few months away from 18, but everyone has something to say and they should be allowed to say it. who knows, maybe some people will learn things from those "children"!

I have to agree with Pure on this one.

Every cat I've ever had has been from purchased from the pound. And they MAKE you get your animal spayed/neutered. (which I think is great!)
In fact, the last cat I acquired I found as a month old kitten, hiding under a car on a very busy street. I didn't have room for him but I couldn't leave him there.

I've pulled 3 dogs off the street and dropped them at Animal Control, held 2 dying dogs that were hit by cars, and rescued a dog that was stuck on the freeway (I have the scars to show for this one.)

It really upsets me when I hear of people that allow their animals to mate uncontrolablly. It just doesn't make sense and there's no excuse for it.

It would be different if Fish Breeder lives on a farm a large piece of land. I could see the justification behind having that many animals. My Grandparents have litters upon litters of cats on their farm. It helps to control the rodent population.

In my area of California, there isn't much space for animals to safely roam. It's a very populated area and it breaks my heart when I see cats and dogs in the streets. We have to protect little creatures from the human population and be responsible for the actions of our pets.

Fish Breeder,
Your cats are beautiful little guys. Enjoy them while they're tiny and cute! If you have a Humane Society in your area you should contact them regarding spaying/neutering all your cats. I'm sure they'd give you a break with the cost.

Holy cow, people. Get a grip!

First of all, fish_breeder told us that her cats getting pregnant was an accident. They were indoor-only cats and so they weren't fixed and oops. They got out. Now they're getting fixed. People made mistakes and it seems that fish and her family are doing the responsible thing here and making sure the cats are taken care of. Way to go!

Secondly, yes, there are way too many animals out there who need homes to justify deliberately breeding so many. Sorry if I'm offending anyone, but I do think that until the USA figures out that animals are not objects or possessions we're going to have this rampant breeding going on.

I do think it might have been wise to not jump all over each other over opinions. The first rule of trying to get a point across is to NOT make the person you're talking to defensive. Once a person goes on the defense he or she stops caring about what your point is and just cares about defending him/herself. Makes sense, eh?

Anyway, I have ten cats at the moment. I only wanted one but I'm one of those suckers who takes in unwanted animals. One of my strays had kittens about six weeks after I took her in. They were the cutest little babies ever and if anyone wants to see pictures then go to photos.yahoo.com/dolittle_allday and click on the folder that says "kittens." There are other albums with my other pets in them but they need to be updated. My cats stole my USB cable and hid it.

Anyway, congratulations fish_breeder! If I lived any closer I'd adopt one of your kittens!
