Well I think because of the rising popularity of killifish there should be a killifish dedicated forum. All questions that are asked in the oddballs forum are lost in the peacock eels and elephant nose fish topics and since killies are more popular those questions need to be answered. I'm sure a lot of people would agree that a killi oriented forum is needed. Please give it a thought or two and anyone that agrees should express their views.

There is probably about one topic on killis per week to fortnight, not really enough to warrant a dedicated forum. If they really were more popular than the other oddball fish then their posts would always rise to the top and there would be no problem.

If they are falling down the board quickly then they obviously aren't that popular.

Didn't this come up before? Yes, I agree not enough posts to make it worth it really.

Been there tried to get this going and I'm wearing a bloodstained t-shirt.
Nobody interested in killifish.

I'm interested in killifish! I've been hatching eggs over the last couple of weeks, and there's loads I would like to ask or discuss but I tend to look at other web sites for any information I need, as there doesn't seem that much interest on this site. Perhaps there are other interested people here, but they do as I do for the same reasons.

There must also be prospective TFFers who browse this forum for killi info and chat but decide to go elsewhere. - Just a thought. I love you all really.

That post by HTW says it alone, people are interested but have to go elsewhere because of the lack of a dedicated forum. IMO if a dedicated forum was created more people would flock to this site for info on killies and I know of plenty of people who own and talk about killies on this site just we really dont have anywhere to talk about them. I'm still sure others would agree a killi forum could and should be created for the good of the site.

Edit: This message is for the mods, what would us killi people have to do to get a killi dedicated forum started if my message above hasnt already convinced you? Oh and if theres a problem with whos going to be the mod for the forum I could do it... ;)

I'm not a mod, but I can tell you what the killi people would have to do to get another forum; get a very large amount of threads and replies going on killis.

That's how we got the nano SW forum, because the SW Chit Chat was seeing heavy nano traffic.

The fact is, if no-one posts on it, there's no point having the forum on it. I would love to see a SW pred forum - especially focusing on sharks and rays, but there just aren't enough people on this board interested in the nastier SW fish.

If you create the killi forum before there is the demand, then everyone would demand a board. The front page would end up cluttered with forums about all sorts of diverse and spcialised fish that don't have a great deal of traffic, but make scrolling down the site more and more difficult.

Aww, dont worry Big C, no one likes big predatory catfish or oddballs either.

I would like to see a killies forum, im all for specialising and sub dividing to make information more obtainable and easier to access but there has to be a certain ammount of activity in that field before a new forum can be implemented.

Ok, so lets get the ball rolling and start having more killi activity on the forum then! I'm sure we've all got lots to say.

I agree that there should be significant numbers of people posting about killis before a new forum is made. But i also think that if people who do post killi info to try and get it all going should not simply post about any old killi thing just to show that a new forum should be started....It has to be people actually asking things or showing things...
I think that a poll should be started by a MOD (so it gets noticed more) in the tropical chit chat forum....

plus, why killis? we already have an oddball forum, so if there is a killi forum, why not have ray forum? oddball catfish forum? bichir forum? they all fit in oddball, and we cant really except one out of the lot.

No I agree and that's what I meant. I have never asked anything about my eggs or fry. I would really be interested with other peoples experiences, when they move them onto bigger tanks etc, but would you call that just any old thing?

Basically a forum is for any old thing isn't it? I'm not going to [and I'm sure others aren't too] waste my time posting pointless things for the sake of it just to make a point.

Sounded a bit heavy when I read this back. Oops. Meant it nicely though and as I said I agree.

Why killies?

Because the keeping and breeding of killie fishes is quite different from the keeping and breeding of other fish groups.

If the forum suddenly had an influx of stingray keepers then yes i would campaign for a stingray forum, if we suddenly had hundreds of posts about bichirs (and i dont mean just senegals and ornates) then there could well be a call for a forum discussing bichirs and other ancient fish.

Its all about supply and demand, if there is enough demand for a topic then we will supply it. The matter is now under discussion in the mods forum and the early prognosis looks good

Here's hoping.
We can't have like minded aquarists going to other forums to find out info on certain fish species, we should have them all here. This is the best forum I have had the pleasure of joining and it should encompass anything and everything to to with this great hobby of ours. If new classes are requested by members then they should recieve serious consideration.

BigC
