Keiths New Tank Journal

I admire your will power. I'm chomping at the bit because there is a kebab on it's way. Your going to be a busy lad in a couple of days.

tanks all set up and running and fish moved :hyper:

the only casualty was that one of the arulius baebs jumped out of the tank and went behind it. by the time i had got to it it was too late :sad: Keith also got a few wounds as i tried to net him, he went mad and almost jumped out of the tank also :crazy: nothing that wont heal i hope as he really is/was markless.

just one thing thats annoyed me, i just went to fit the hood on to complete the job only to find out that the cut outs in the hood for the filter pipes isnt wide enough to fit 2 x FX5 pipes side by side :angry:

has anyone else fitted 2 x FX5 filters on an ND tank? if so how didi you do i? was the hood modified to make them fit? :unsure:

ill put up some pics tomorrow when the fish have settled and i can get a light on :good:

Matt any chance of pics of the LED's? they look great and i now want them lol
once i can get the hood fitted ill be posting a few pics mate but until then i have no lighting :sad:

i have posted pics of them working before i filled it with just the wood in place on another topic if you want to have a look at them but bare in mind there is no water, fish or decor just a piece of wood the tank wasnt even cleaned..... but it gives an idea until i can get my hood sorted. the single 4ft LED tube is quite bright on its own but it should show the fishes colours up great from what i saw at an lfs :hey:

a quick night time crap phone pic with flash to keep you occupied until i can sort the hood out.....

i think i might have given the filters too much of a clean yesterday as ive just tested the water and got the following results-

ammonia = 0.25 (not completely yellow anyway)
nitrite = 0
nitrate = 10

ill retest the ammonia later but looks like a water change is due already..... oh the joys :/

water has now stabalised and here are a few pics now ive got the hood to fit over the pipes. sorry they arent the best but mycamera is about shot....

Yes, but I asked them to make sure the pipes would fit. I think they make the gaps a little larger if you warn them about FX5 pipework.

Tank is looking good BTW ! THe balance of space/wood seems about right. How's Keith liking it ?

thanks mate.

yeah i did say i was having FX5 filters hence the reason i had the style cabinet i had. i rang them and we agreed if i tried to mod it and ruined it then they would sort it out but as it happens i managed to do it. its not perfect but at least its at the back so no one can see :hey:

yeah Keith gets about the wood quite well and it doesnt bother him and hes settled very well. still has a bit of an oscar sulk on him but he will perk up soon im sure.

im very tempted to get a pair of rainbow cichlids to live in the cave that the catfish dont seem to like. i will remove the headstander if i do this, if i can find a pair that is....

Pity you don't live down here. I saw some lovely rainbow cichlids only yesterday. In Christchurch though !

No, we didn't have any problems fitting two FX5's on our current ND tank. Hopefully won't with the 6ft. I did tell John I have two FX5's to use on it.

Whereabouts are you Matt? They have Rainbow cichlids in MA Cambridge.

im in Leicestershire and the only rainbows i can find are very small, probably too small to chance tbh.

someone is selling a breeding pair on AQ in Nottingham which would be perfect but are asking £30 for them and its a 95 mile round trip so quite a bit of fuel on top too :angry:

thanks Nelly im very pleased with the tank.

its a shame the pics dont show the true coloyrs of the fish using the LED lights it really does look much better in reality.
