K.j.'s 10g Journal

Er, over a month. I don't really know, it varies, usually at least six small ones I'd say. I'm using the DIY mixture with 1/2 tsp of yeast, 1/2 a tsp of baking soda because we have a water softener, sugar to the first line, lukewarm water to the first line.

similar mixtre to what I'm using in my coke bottle. I used about 3/4 tsp yeast. Only thing I didn't measure is the sugar, but used about a small cup (tea cup). Its bubbling like mad :)

how often do you replace the mixture? It says it lasts about a month in the nutrafin instructions.

Dev.

You're a little confused. You are surely talking about a bubble counter, where you can see the bubble pass through the water from the inlet and count their frequency.

These are more useful for pressurised where you quite often need less bubbles as you are using pressurised pure CO2.

I used to use one on my Nutrafin kits though as it is quite easy to see if your mix is slowing (especially if it is slowing earlier than expected)

A drop checker is not connected to anything it is a smallish unit (glass or plastic normally) that you put some reference solution into and then insert into the tank. It is made in such a design that it will hold a vacuum of air and has only one entry/exit where the tank water meets the air. (Also known as a permanent CO2 Test as it stays in the tank)

Just like the surface of your tank the CO2 will exit the water to get into the air, which in turn will turn the solution to a colour (Blue=Too low, green = 30ppm or thereabouts, yellow = dead fish)

This is in its green stage

Hope this helps

Wow, got a good bargain today. 1 "dwarf lily" for 3.99, and then the price tag said 1.99 for a stem of italian val but they were stuck together so the worker gave me five. For the price of one. And then I got two freaking huge pieces of C. Wenditii (sp?) and a small plantlet of it for 4.99 only about 10 or 11 dollars. Here's the tank:

Long story short, we went to petco (I got my 55 gallon tank, unfortunately, you won't see it planted soon) and there was a small driftwood sale, like 14$ for three pieces so I got some. Can't believe how the ludwigia has grown. It really loves the light. Also doing daily small doses of ferts instead of weekly large ones.

Woah, you were born on the same day as me.

I'm confused on how the Nutrifin CO2 kits work and how to not overdose a tank, could you explain it to me? I'm going to be creating a 17g planted tank like yours, but i'm going to start off without CO2, 1 WPG etc, but I could eventually get CO2 if I knew how it works. Don't you have a valve that limits it or something?

Wierd... go Cancers! :hooray:

Nutrafin is basically three things;
a canister
co2 resistant tubing
and a diffuser.

It doesn't require any plugins.
Basically, you make a mixture of yeast, sugar, water, and for me, baking soda, as I have a water softener. Then you put the diffuser (bubble ladder) in the tank, put the tubing into the ladder, hook it onto the canister and there you have it. It doesn't really OD.
