Hi guys.

I got my new Tetratec EX700 delivered today ready for installation in my Juwel Rio 180 tank. I am obviously going to have to cut holes in the lid for the inlet and outlet pipes and I was just wondering what the best way to cut them is. I know other people have done similar so anyone have any tips?

Thanks.

I would drill the holes for the pipework rather than performing cut outs much tidier job.

Hi BigC

I know what you mean, I had thought of that but then the lid wouldn't open properly. Actually, thinking about it I'm not sure how the side you put the pipes in through is going to allow
the lid to open even if I cut the holes. How have others done this? Any photos would be brilliant!

I would cut out a section and run the inlet and outlet through the same hole. This way you can take the top off easier when you need to.

Will the pipes fit through the holes at the back for the power cables?

My Jewel tank has 2 parts that are lower than the rest of it for the cables to go through, about 2cm wide by 1cm deep. It would stop you needing to cut any holes.

Just what I was going to say. I had to border them up when I had fish that could escape, saves any need for cutting.

My tank will be viewed from both sides as it is installed in a gap between rooms where a doorway used to be. I've built a custom cabinet to house it and it is going to look fantastic but does mean that the back has to look as good as the front. Good idea though!

Some more related questions. Does it matter where you place the spray bar and inlet pipe within the tank? The instructions suggest putting the spray bar along the tank back and the inlet pipe at one side, but it does not say it has to be done this way. Could I have both the spray bar and inlet pipe to the side of the tank or would that cause problems?

Also does the spray bar need to be under or above the water line?

Final question, how far away from the substrate (sand in my case) should the strainer be?

Thanks a lot for any help here! :good:

It depends on your cannister as to whether you'll need to modify the lid in any way, I have the rio 240 and the pipes to my external fit simply through the space in the back of the tank.

You'll usually find the outlet bar in one of the rear corners, if you still have the internal fitted then the back left hand corner is probably best. (and is in fact where mine is)
my spray bar is also on the back wall, They are usually too long to be fitted to one of the sides.

I personally have mine around an inch above the water line to increase the current and aeration in my tank but i think that as long as you have some visible circulation at the top of the tank its not too critical where it is positioned

I'd leave a space of around 3 inches, (depending on what species you will be keeping) to prevent any shifted sand from getting sucked into the filter

Hi,
I just got my second hand Aqua-Pro 2. Seems ok, have managed to prime it without using instructions :good: I don't think I received all the parts you would with a new one, since theres no spray bar to fit onto the outlet pipe, and nothing to put on the end of the inlet pipe to stop fish from getting sucked in! At the moment, I've got the pipe stuck down the tube which the undergravel pump used to sit on, but I think this kinda defeats the purpose of the external filter (how will it manage to suck up any debris etc. floating at the surface/on the floor of the gravel substrate?
Can anyone shed some light on this for me please?!

Cheers

You can always try ebay (just had a quick look and there were one or two that may fit but it depends on the diameter of the hose your using)
or an alterntative is to ask at your LFS if they can get replacement parts in, some will be able to get what you need

Ok great. I'll have a look to see what I can find, otherwise go to my LFS tomorrow and ask. Cheers!
