My jewel light in my rio 125 keeps going off after a half a hour to a hour it comes back on after a bit and i don't know if it goes off again ive not watched it for that long.

Anyone know what it could be? when it goes off if you unplug it and plug it back in it comes back on.

If you don't have any obvious loose wires then my money is on the ballast (very common fault on Juwel light bars  )

Check out my 'pinned post' at the very top of this section for repairing or it's a replacment from Juwel (around £70)

Before you fiddle with the insides, have a look on the underside, I can guarantee it has a red sticker on it, if so it was made in china, take it back to where you bought it and demand a replacement, you're entitled to one 6 years after the product was sold.

It does have the red sticker on but i bought it second hand.

How come you can get a replacement then? where they a faulty batch?

They were all made in china when Juwel outsourced, they're made in Germany now, Juwel aren't replacing them, but the product hasn't served it's purpose, which it is supposed to do for 6 years.

you LFS will take it back and issue you a new better quality one and send the faulty one back to Juwel, it doesnt cost you or the LFS money it costs Juwel

i done it, my LFS were more than willings to send it back for me

Is this correct, mines also gone cappote, also i just brought a new second hand tank and lights just gone bang poof, lightbulbs are working so can only think its the inside of the sealed unit, bloomin cack units

Mine turns off after 30mins rang my lfs they said i need a reciet and its not 6 years its 1year warranty. isit worth getting hold of juwel direct? Mine has the red sticker on btw

Hello,

Difficult one.... Actually you don't need a receipt as it is not actually a legal requirement to issue one. You (or probably the original purchaser??) would need to have other proof of purchase (card statement etc.).

The one year warrenty is from the manufacturer... EU rules state that the goods must be "fit for purpose".. I **think** you could have 2 or 3 years of "reasonable" use... I'm unsure of exactly what the rules are (regarding length of reasonable life) and if you would get very far actually trying to use them "in the real world".

It might be better to approach Jewel directly and see what they have to say.. I understand that they are often very helpful.

My gut feeling is that you may be out of luck.. If this is the case, then you are either looking at buying a new unit or repairing the old one. A new ballast is around £20.. It is actually very easy to do once you've managed to open the old unit up.

If you want any help, then just look at the Jewel and other lighting threads in this section. If you have any questions or concerns then just ask here... I've helped with quite a few lighting problems on this and other sites.

Over to you...

Bodge99.
