Can someone explain this thing to me? i have a Tetra heater in my tank at the moment but im farely sure its broken (its not come on once) so i've found out my old Juwel heater, there is no dial to say what temperature it will be set at? just a + and - sign?
John

+ means higher temerature, - means lower. If you set it in the middle, that should be about 25°C/77°F.

What is the water temperature?

averaging about 24.5 right now, with the heater not working, so its fine temporarily, thanks for the help :)

Hmm, is there a chance that the setting on the dial does not correspond to the correct heating setting? That can happen quite often. What does your old heater do if you set it to max and leave it for a couple of minutes? Does the end feel warm? It could also be that the bulb is broken.

quite often??????????????????? there are no manufacturers, that i am aware of, who claim the settings are correct. use the setting on the heater, as a guide, and adjust the temperature to you tanks (hopefully, spirit) thermometer.

turn the heater right down
then turn it up one degree
at a time till the light comes on
then turn it one degree back and
you might find thats were it needs to be set

heaters do have a thermostat built in
it will cut off and switch on when it
either gets to cold or to hot it will
not show up on a thermometer exactly
what you set it for unless the heater
as been compromised or is damaged
in some way
