Ok I went away on camp this week and what did I find a nice new Rekord 60 Juwel tank readly set up with a lovely looking red betta that I saw at the lfs earler in the week and fell in love with it. Anyway we moved the angelfish from the 5 gal tank (my mum sad it would be best for the fish YAY finaly) anyway the heater seems to not be very clear and dosent tell you wether to turn it clockwise or anti-clockwise to turn down the heater any ideas?

None of the juwel heaters are clear, it has been designed that way. They have been designed to generate as much heat as possible for the size heater and the special coating inside the glass serves two purposes. It act as in insulator and protects the elements.( the tube should be a dull grey in colour)
You should not normally need to touch the heater knob/dial as it has been factory set. If you have twisted and turned it and have lost the pre-set factory setting, what I would suggest is this.
Turn it fully anti-clockwise until it can go no further-gently. Then again gently twist it clockwise about 1/3 of the way around. Test the unit and increase by turning it clockwise or decrease by turning it anti-clockwise as appropriate. Remember it will take around 4 hours for the water to give a true overall reading depending on what other things you have in the tank.
Never turn the heater knob halfway because you've lost patience. You have a chance to lose a lot more. Boiled fish comes to mind.

So anti-clockwise would be cold clockwise would be hot.
anti means the opposite
ergo anti-clockwise is the opposite of clockwise
clockwise is right to left so anti- would be left to right
make any sense?
