Hi All,

I was wondering if i can leave the juwel filter box empty in my tank?

Sounds bizare i know but let me explain.

I have an established Juwel Trigon 350 Corner tank, with T5's, a eheim 2026 professtional 2 external filter as well as the juwel internal. It is set up as a Malwai Cichlid tank (which is rather heavily stocked)

I hate the Juwel internal filter system, its a pain to maintain and you have to buy new white and green sponges all the time! I love my eheim as it is easy to maintain and you only have to change the white pads!

So this comes back to my question, can I take all the filter media out of my juwel filter box, including the pump and leave it there? As at the moment my heater is in there as well as my intake pipe for my eheim. I want to add another eheim so there would also be another intake pipe in there?

I cant see why it would be a problem, i know alot of people take the filter box right out but i dont really want to this as 1, the tank is set up, 2 i dont want the pipes and heater on show, and 3 will be no background behind the filter box.

The filter box doesnt bother me being in as you cant really see it with the rock build up and plants at the back of the tank?

So is it ok to do this?

Thanks

George

You don't have to buy new green sponges, they are a con. You can buy filter wool on ebay for next to nothing.

I'm not sure about leaving it empty in your tank, those juwel filters accumulate a lot of crap in the bottom of them, which might stagnate without the powerhead to provide water movement

I want to do this awell :hyper: to my rio 125 it will be hard to get out as I have a 3d backgroud leaving the box in would be ideal!

Wont putting the uptake pipe of the eheim in the box stop the bottom stagnating?

^^ should do, if one is at the bottom of where the heater can go and the other intake for your second filter is where the powerhead used to go :good:

You can remove the Juwel filter media no problems other than that, just get the second filter running alongside for a few weeks before removal of the Juwel system, or better still move the Juwel media into the Eheim and remove a sponge each clean to replace with your new media (assuming you want to run all new, otherwise you can keep the old media no problems) :good:
