Hi,
I sent off my first post yesterday before even introducing myself - so I'll remedy that today.
I'm an Australian expat living in China. Although I had tropical fish as a teenager it's some time since I had any interest in fish. This was reignited when a fellow expat left China and I inherited his aquarium stock - 3 plecos, 2 lace gouramis and one blue gourami. My six year old son just came home with them in a bucket one day. So it was a mad dash to find a tank and since then we've set up a second tank a couple of weeks ago. So far it has 3 male guppies, one lace gourami (the other 2 died over the past 12 months), 2 balloon kissing gouramis, 10 neon tetras. Now we are on the lookout for other colourful, community fish. There are some crazy fish here in China.
Anyway, I look forward to gaining a wealth of information and becoming an informed fish enthusiast.
Cheers,
Onyx :fish:

:hi: to the forum.

If you stay here long enough, you will definitely get that wealth of information you're looking for. Ask a couple of questions in the beginner section if you have any and you'll get a ton of answers. Good luck. :D

Hi Alaska,

I will do that, once I become more adept at digital photography and using my computer. Last week I saw some really interesting looking fish. They were silver and each had a different rainbow colour on their extremities(not dyed), as if they were refracting the light differently. The colour was like each had a neon light installed. I don't know if the store had a special flourescent tube installed to make them appear that way - there was only one shop that had them, so they seem to be an oddity.

The aquarium market here in Changchun, China is remarkable. About 70 or 80 stores, side by side. Some selling just tanks and stands, others equipment and others selling either marine, or tropical fish and kois. And most are so cheap - it's a darn pity I won't be able to take them back to Australia with me.

Cheers,

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to giving and receiving lots of information. After reading through a lot of the pinned beginners posts I am astounded I've still got any live fish! I think so far I've made every mistake possible. I must have really hardy fish!! Or just a huge case of beginners luck....

Uh oh, I've just been surfing the web trying the find out what these fish are and I think they're Painted Glass Fish. I'm heading back to the shop this week to see if they're identical but at the moment it all seems to fit - particularly as the website I just visited stated that painting by injecting the glass fish is done in Asia. I didn't think anything that was "painted" could look so "natural".
