Just A Thank You On Gravel Vac Advice!

Just wanted to say a big thank you for explanations on this forum on how to use the gravel vac correctly!

I know that the companies give instructions on how to use the vacs, but following other peoples suggestions on here whilst searching through the threads, I have been using the vac far more efficiently!!

helpful hints from this forum have included:

• holding finger over the end of the hose which is in your bucket, to control water flow - this stops most your gravel ending up in bucket (this one drove me crazy - my poor fish kept loosing their gravel!! )
• only vaccing 1/3 of the tank per gravel vac -this is about the average coverage you would get per water change
• different methods of collecting waste-holding vac slightly above the gravel -through to - pushing vac into gravel; by gently twisting it in.

I too learned how to do it properly from here, the instructions on mine had me doing all sorts of weird manouvers with the siphon! Its an invaluable source this forum and i wouldnt have got through any of my fish 'traumas' without it!! GRJ
