I am breaking down tnks and consolidating as my busy work schedule hs left me less time for maintannce. I broke down my GT tank and finally removed my Jack Dempseys from their babies. Both my pair of Jacks and my Green Terror pair are living in a 75g. Then I starting hearing some weird stuff about Jacks and GTs being able to breed with each other???? I have tried to research it and I am getting answers in both directions. Has anyone ever heard of this?? If so, can they really successfully interbreed and have viable fry? I'm really concerned bout this as I am not one to hybridize fish (with the exception of platys and swordtails). I need to know which side is true asap so I can set the other tank back up and separate.

Very unlikely, these two fish are not from the same family as each other. The Jack dempsey is from the family Archocentrus and the Green terror is from Aequidens!!

Well yeah, in reality they will probably remain in their already established pairs, but in theory it is certainly possible. The spawn would probably be infertile but never say never. At the end of the day they're both large cichlids with roughly the same shape, there are both males and females in the tank... Nothing to stop them trying!!

Yes they can produce hybrid fry. Most Central Americans will spawn with other species.

So why not let them Flirt with each other if they want to.
I don't mind if they flirt, but I really don't want to be responsible for bunch of hybridized fish on the market. I prefer my fish stay with their own kind when it come to the bedroom activities

Electric blue jack terror?
That could be a very strong colorfish with an extremely bad attitude lol

What would the chances of any surviving in your mixed tank? I would say nil. So just put all the guys together and let them get on with life.

Apparently you do not know anything bout Jack Dempseys or Green Terrors. They WILL kill to defend their fry. My male Jack has bitten me numerous time and attacked me (which truly was very painful) while doing tank maintanance to protect his babies. SO the chances of fry surviving in my mixed tank are very high.

Thats fine, so exactly how many Jack Demseys have you managed to raise out of your mixed tank???
