Just A Curious Question

Thats fine, so exactly how many Jack Demseys have you managed to raise out of your mixed tank???
None, considering the tank has only been mixed for 24 hours. But when they spawned with oscars as tankmates, I watched my 3 inch female jck put 7 inch oscar in the corner. I removed the oscars to a new tank for the oscars safety

BUT since how many fry can I expect in a mixed tank was NOT my original questions, is there anything that you would like to add that pertains to whether or not cross breeding can occur?

Chances are as they are an established pair they will not be bothered by the GT, if the gt is male it may fight with the jd. Cross breeding is possible, I bred (accidentally) a convict and severum, pretty fish but mean!

So why not let them Flirt with each other if they want to.
I don't mind if they flirt, but I really don't want to be responsible for bunch of hybridized fish on the market. I prefer my fish stay with their own kind when it come to the bedroom activities

Electric blue jack terror?
That could be a very strong colorfish with an extremely bad attitude lol

how would they end up on the market, are you going to sell them? if i were you if they did breed cull them or remove the eggs from the tank?

I wouldn't sell them, but hypothetically, what if they cross-bred and I didn't see the spawning? What if I didn't realize that the fry weren't pure? nd no, of course I wouldn't knowlingly sell hybrids. I would do as you said, the eggs would be removed from the tank, or on the crzy off chance that it happened, and the fry survived, they would probably end up as oscar food.

But as other in the thread have indicated, I have two established mated pairs. The GT has a lady, and the Jack has a lady, both proven to breed (still have about 200 jack fry to unload) So they may not even think to step outside their "marraige." That, and as it stands, the males are protective of their ladies, and I have been watching the finest display of male dominance. The GT and Jack liplocked for the first 12 hours (no fish were injured) and boundaries have now been set.

As weird as it sounds, I just wanted to know everything that could possibly happen when I consolidated these tanks, no matter how unlikely it was. Best to be prepared for anything IMO

Always the best way :)

What would the chances of any surviving in your mixed tank? I would say nil. So just put all the guys together and let them get on with life.
Apparently you do not know anything bout Jack Dempseys or Green Terrors. They WILL kill to defend their fry. My male Jack has bitten me numerous time and attacked me (which truly was very painful) while doing tank maintanance to protect his babies. SO the chances of fry surviving in my mixed tank are very high.

My jacks has had 3 sets of fry. And although they are great parents, eventually they do turn on their fry. Out of curiosity how long do u keep them in the same tank? Mine couldn't make it to adulthood with the parents. Just wondering if yours were different.

I moved mine to their own tank at 2 months old. The parents guarded them with their life up until that point. In fact I was getting attacked by the jacks when i was trying to separate out their babies. Mine are currently on their 4th spawn.
