This is unreal... seriously, he jumped out of less than 1/2 inch space  This is my most adventurous betta, he jumped a divider once and lost his whole anal fin to the betta on the other side (twice his size). Just when it had grown back...

I found him lying on the velcro of my computer case and looking very dead. When I went to pick him up I found he was stuck to the velcro but his gills fluttered. I wet him, ran for a knife and cut him free, then I put him in a jar and treated the water with melafix. As soon as he hit the water (I was very gentle) he pretty much went into convulsions and flipped everywhere but that only lasted about five seconds. He is breathing and can hold himself at the surface, but is leaning heavily against the glass. His fins look awful, they have gone brownish (they are usually purple and white).

He's acting like he's got SBD. Will this last, and if he pulls through, what should I use (other than/in addition to melafix?)

Jesus!
All you can do is keep the water warm and make sure there are no bright lights on him - this is for comfort reasons. To be honest, there is not much more you can do now, except wait and see if he pulls through.

Did he seem dry of stiff when you found him? Or was he still moist and flexible? If that makes any sense what so ever?

Well he was looking alright last night, he was still kind of wet when I found him and moved when I touched him and he tried to swim when I put him in the jar, but unfortunately he didn't make it. It was kind of touch and go when I went to bed and he was gone when I woke up.

:( :rip: little Lucky... miss you boy.

So sorry the little one didn't make it Laura

I'm sorry to hear that :(

It's too bad fish don't realize that there isn't water outside their tanks. I lost a cichlid that way once, and my current cichlid has also jumped his tank once when he was little. He was covered in dust bunnies and hair when I found him.. but he survived. Thank goodness.

yeah, at least yours lived... it is a shame, he was a plucky little thing, and he's survived an awful lot of close shaves (hence the name). Not this one I guess. The annoying thing is that the tank was covered... it was less than a 1/2 inch gap that he jumped through.
