Jumbo Fantail

Hi . I have recently purcased 1 jumbo fantail and 1 jumbo oranda. they have been absolutely fine and look amazing , @ 7 inches from head to end of tail. I only have one concern with these fish. they are in my room in my 190 litre tank which is obviously warmer than a pond. the temperature always seems to hover around 22 to 23 degrees C , despite me dropping the occasional ice block in. the fish however look fine but am just wondering if they are actually ok at this . ? also does any one know how big they will get since every where i read says different.

Those aren't jumbo fish, they are a perfectly normal size for fancy goldfish. That's how big they're supposed to be, bigger than that in fact. I presume you have a large tank to accomodate such big fish, they should get a little bit bigger than that yet. Good specimens get to about the size of a very big orange. I've seen some absolute beauties.

They ( fancies) also tend not to do too well as pond fish. Supposedly they are rather susceptible to temps below 15 C . Is the temp of your tank consistently22-23 degrees? You don't have a heater do you? Because if you do then take it out.

They should be fine. Just keep an eye on them and their health, and keep the water changes large and very regular( weekly ) , top up with dechlorinated water that's slightly cooler than what's ambient in the tank ( not freezing cold water direct from the tap, that's too cold! )

no i do not have a heater its just the room temp that keeps the tank @ 22 23 . they were sold to me as jumbos purely becuse they were a lot bigger than the normal fantails you would find in shops . i got them @ 7 inches . in terms of growth how much more would you expect them to grow. tank is 190 litres . thank you

They should grow a few inches more in length and girth ( around ) .

ive got fancies in my pond all through the winter and theyve done well...my biggest is huge..cant say for size what length but i guess from tip of mouth to before the tail must be 7 or 8 inches and girth wise..well about the same if not more.

temps fine, just means theyre more active so make more mess.
