Awesome! Thank you so much for this advice! Yeah, painting is a hobby, but I wanted to keep it legal in case I did want to sell one day. Good advice for the use of references too! I am still learning, so mostly copying references, but I will try and mix it up to create my own thing (kinda hard right now because my focus is horses, which can be very complex)!!

Did you know that if you mess with a dead armadillo, there is a good chance of getting leprosy

Horses are tricky, Ways to switch that up would be mane, tail, markings and color. Do totally different markings than the reference photo and tada! Totally new horse. Add Native American war paint, etc etc. (these are just ideas of course)

Here’s one I did, I don’t have the reference because it was from an old calendar. I added Native American paint, feathers in the mane and switched up the colors

So you can just do that? Like fill in the gaps kinda? Cover it and draw in the rest like a "freestyle puzzle"?
