Juice’s Art Journey

Yeah. The TikTok algorithm favors people who put out videos daily, and who get likes, comments and shares frequently. kind of like the Etsy algorithm favors shops who have daily sales and favorites of the items. Shows my content to more people= More chance of sales. This is my only income, I don’t want to be social media famous, in fact I’m really bad at social media, putting my stuff out there is the hardest part of my job but it’s the only way to create a following and make a living
Ah ok... Yes, that makes a lot of sense.
Maybe do super easy videos once or twice a week while you're making on a ton of other videos. Then once you have a lot of stored videos, you can start releasing them daily and then just keep working on videos while you have pre-stored videos to share regularly.
So it will almost be an unending supply if done right I'd think...
That should give you a good boost with how many people are seeing the videos and how many are liking and commenting on them. And don't forget more followers!
This is just an idea... I admit, I have no experience with owning a legitimate social media account where you have to continually post (ok, well besides fish forums... I'm constantly posting here 🤣) but I think it may work if done properly :dunno:

Yep, last night I made about 4 stored up. Have another one ready to make and store. 😊
I never used to think about it and my personal social media I rarely post (maybe once every few months) so this is definitely a challenge!

Awesome!
Do we share braincells? 🤣

Yah some people don't post a lot on their personal accounts. Makes sense though. Some people don't have the time or just don't want personal info out on some platforms.

Hey @JuiceBox52? I am curious to know the list of different media you use, and which is your favorite?
Also where did you learn to make drawings like that beautiful Philippine eagle?

I use a lot of different medias, my main three are inkpen, acrylic and watercolor, depending on what I’m in the mood for.

I’m not sure! It just kinda happened. It’s a similar style to the caracal cat I did awhile back. I took one art class in 6th grade that I did terribly in but nothing else. Mostly self taught with time. Occasionally if I have a certain effect I want to go for I’ll google how to achieve said affect but not often, usually just experimentation.

I really like experimenting with values with thick and thin lines, I like that’s why I went for that style. If you want I can attach the eagle reference I was working from

I'd like to see the reference you used for the eagle. You really have a great talent and you also have some marketing skills. Hope you can develop a rewarding career.

Thank you!

It's amazing to me that you could draw that in just 1.5 to 2 hrs. All the intricate perfectly placed lines require a keen eye and a steady hand.

It’s not very big, this is it next to a pen. But I do work quickly for some things :)

When choosing reference photos, what do you do to keep it legal? I ask only because I have a painting in mind that would require using references, and I don't want to illegally use other peoples photos.
Thanks so much for answering my questions!

I don't think you need permission. Cause I believe if it's just reference photos to an animal or something in the natural world it doesn't matter.
Now I would guess if you are doing a painting from a movie for example, that MAY need permission for SELLING them, not if it's just a hobby and nothing more.

There’s dozens of free photos, public domain etc online. Also, as long as you aren’t copying super realistic it’s generally legal. If you were for example doing a photoshop collage, a copyrighted photograph would be illegal to use, but these armadillos, (references and my art attached) are legal. It’s a bit iffy, but there are a lot of articles online.

Also as long as you’re not selling you can use any reference and not worry

General rule, don’t copy, but use a variety of references to create your own combination and add your own ideas as well. Don’t just copy a photo. Maybe choose two or three photos and combine them with your own twist. A reference is a starting point, to get the proportions correct. Art isn’t about copying, but capturing a likeness of what you’re drawing (or painting etc)

And never be afraid to use references. All artists do, it’s very very rare for someone to COMPLETELY use their brain, especially for something not just simple or abstract. Art teachers include the phrase “steal like an artist” do it legally, but never be afraid to use references
