Journey To The Salty Side

well my tank hasnt been running for very long and she bought them over 200 miles away. i will see if my lfs will swap them out. what should i swap for?

well, you havent put the rock in yet nor cycled your tank, so just get a credit note, to be honest i would just be glad the took them off my hands :good:

Unless I missed something, the tank is still not cycled, correct? Definitely bring the damsels into your LFS if possible... take store credit and save it until you have the live rock in and the tank is cycled through.

If you can find out the type of light fixture we can help much more with that, I.E. Power compact, T5HO, T8, etc.

EDIT: Seffie beat me :p

i have live rock in the tank now appproximately 8 pounds. i bought all the lfs had.and i will probably try to trade them thursday what should i trade for? and also i know i am a long way away from it but how do you take care of soft corals?

Really they are not worth much at all, just get a credit note, for when your rock is cycled :good:

How are you going to test the water?
Do you have a refractometer?
Do you have extra powerheads for flow around the rock?
What lights do you currently have?

Seffie x

you need more than 8 pounds of live rock to filter your tank, you need approx 25 kilos

no refractometer. i have a hydrometer.
im purchasing power heads tommorrow.
as for the lights i have a zoomed tropic sun 5500k light.
i am also going to buya test kit tommorrow.

As seffie stated, you want at least 55 pounds of live rock in there...

You should consider buying a refractometer, there are some fairly cheap ones on ebay and they can save you a huge headache. Hydrometers can become (or start out) inaccurate and can be disastrous to your tank if you do not realize how off it is reading.

That bulb you listed is a t8 bulb... you won't be able to keep much if that is all you have.

i will see if my lfs sales refractometers.

I was looking in my aquarium and all of a sudden i saw large moving dots in the sand. i un buried them and i found 4 collista snails. so i thought yay my first good hitchhikers! :hyper: Then just now i was looking at the live rock and then a small arm the size of a blade of grass popped out. i thought what the hell. i got to looking. i have a brittle star!!! is that a yay or a nay?

T8s are fine for fish, rock and some corals, soft corals such as colt corals, pussy and mushrooms to name but a few

Buy the refractometer of fleabay, it will be cheaper

ps did the long arm have bristles or not?

what is a good light bulb brand? i have a simple light strip.

Hydro's are inaccurate mate! get a refractometer £20 on fleebay inc p&p.

Get a couple of powerheads that give good flow. Want to be aiming for 20 x turnover min. ie 100L tank would require 2000lph to get 20 x turnover. Best to get a couple for random flow.

Anymore spec on the light. Marine lamps are usually 10000K daylight and actinic in T5

Regarding test kits try and go for an API master test kit or better yet the Salifert range if poss.

The t8 will be much of a muchness really, oh you only have a single, consider buying a t5 remote ballast, they are not expensive, arcadia do a decent one

my lfs has one for sell. it has 5 bulbs and it is what they have on their 55 gallon showtank(which has a lot of corals and fish). should i buy it? it is $250

i have found a guy who lives 20 miles away from me who is selling live rock for $4 a pound. to my understanding this is a phenominal price. the lfs sell it for $6 apiece. should i buy some?
