Journey Through Puppyhood

Cute! Last time I got to see an animal grow from that stage was our two cats. Someone had actually scared off their mother so they were abanoned prematurely. It was a unique experience bottle feeding them and watching them grow. I hope your enjoy your puppy motherhood, you definetly got one of the cutested in the litter.

Thank you very much!
And yes, next to handsome big brother Cooper in the litter (Yes, he's got the same name as his mother), she's next in line for cuteness!
(Cooper was a little white fluffball, yes he was a golden retriever, but he was like an ivory-white.)

Only 2 days now til you get her! Woohoo!!
On the day we picked Ginger up it was like Christmas morning - we were awake by 6am and going to collect her at 7.30am! lol
Luckily the breeder lived close by and had said we could go anytime after 6. Then we had all day for her to adjust to our aromas and living space. It was overwhelming for her at first but she's very settled and a big part of the family now.

Getting Huxley was much more of a test of my patience as we had to go our not so local fish store to sell a very large gourami which came with one of our tanks, then drive for two hours, and then I was able to get my girl. My sister was with me and she said I was quite annoying. "Hurry up," I kept telling her whilst in the LFS.

How far away does Piper currently live? I highly recommend you pick up a training crate for her. You can usually get one used for around thirty dollars. They really do make puppyhood easier.

@ Mamashack: Eeep, I know! I told my mom that it was going to be like Christmas morning for me! We usually get up at like, 1 o clock on the weekend (We don't care, we don't usually have anything important to do.) and I wanted to wake up at about 8 o clock to go, but my mom said no. (I said 8 cause it takes her an hour to get ready... so we would leave at 9.... and it takes us an hour to get there, so we would arrive at 10....) but she said that was pushing it, so I have to wait until 9. *sigh*.

@attibones: Piper lives an hour away from us, but we don't have the room for a crate in the house :/

Do you have space for a sturdy laundry basket? You could use this as a makeshift bed of sorts, which will accomplish the same principle. Either way, expect a few bad nights of sleep if she's going to be in the bed with you. My Teddy used to walk to the very edge and poop off the side of it... You'll have to be pretty careful where you put your feet in the mornings.

Woohoo! Today's the big day! (Hope you've managed to sleep! lol)
When you've got time, post some pictures of your new girl - love pics - especially of puppies!

@attibones: That could be true, but Bailey, another puppy I babysat for two weeks, she slept in my bed and she would wake me up to go poop. I guess it all depends on the puppy, and you'll never know what they're like unless you try.
And I do have a laundry basket that would fit, I thought of using that one but it doesn't have a lid and we don't have anything to block it off since we're using everything like that to block off shoes and cords and stuff.

@Mamashack: I know! I promise I'll post pictures as soon as I can! It might be a while though, we've got places to shop for her to stop at first.

How exciting, and I hope she'll not be missing her mom and siblings for too long!

Instead of a kennel you could try getting used baby gates to cordon off an area where she can stay when unsupervised. Sixteen years ago we used one for our puppy to keep her at the end of the hallway where she had a dog bed and her water bowl while we were out. She was pretty good not soiling there, so this also served as a housetraining technique!

Now we use a baby gate in the hall way, so we can keep the dogs away from the front door when people come, or to keep them from getting underfoot when we're busy bringing groceries in. :)

We've got a couple for Ginger - between the kitchen and living room (no door so like Meeresstille I like to keep them safe away from the door) and also at the foot of the stairs to stop her invading Freddy's bolt-hole in the bathroom. They work a treat and they can still see what's going on beyond.

Investigating the rabbit. Afterwards, he lunged at her. Piper's scared of him now.

Seeing that first picture it made me think of Big Bang Theory's Sheldon being sung the sleepy kitty song, lol!

I know pictures can be deceiving, but she looks like she has a calm temperament, what a cutie!

She does have a calm personality! She didn't chase the bunny or the cat.And yup, that's all she does! She's even sleeping right now, lol.

Here, have some more pictures I took. xD

First night, no whining. She already knows Sit, and we are working on Down currently!

Clever Piper! Great pictures, Blue!
