Breaking News
Got a glimpse yesterday of a Mantis! in one of the bottom rocks of the reef, i had heard the dreaded clunking noise before but thought it was the boxfish sucking the glass, anyway i came home from work to find a hermit crab pulled clean out of its shell and half munched so i got it with the feeder stick and waggled it at the mantis burrow entrance.
Within seconds it flew out and grabbed the crab and i couldn't believe the power these things have, i tried to pull it from hiding but did not have any luck so removed the rock with alot of re-organising. I then tried the usual sparkling water trick but this did not work so i resulted to the old fastioned method of hammer and chisel which worked like a dream :)
The Mantis is about 2.5" long and now in a bucket along with a giant bristleworm also found in the rock. One thing i did notice though is that the Mantis is black? only picture i have seen is of the Peacock which is quite colourful and a sandy specimen.

The smaller ones are usually a lot less colourful iirc.

Looking forward to pics. Fish stock sounds ace

Thanks mate, I always look at everyone tanks and think why can't mine look as good.
Just got a Ritteri Anemone, always said I wouldn't get another after my last one but couldn't resist, it's a big one as well. Will post some pics later

Thanks for all the comments, its always good to know when you do something right :good:

Ritteri Anemone seems to be doing quite well, this one is massive so i am hoping that this will make a difference long term. My first Ritteri was quite small and only lasted around 6 months and after keeping all sorts of different nems this proved to be the most challanging. I have learned alot about locations since then and 9 times out of ten once i place a nem it will stay there.
For this one i have chose a nice flat rock very high in the water and have also changed the timers on the lights to give longer daylight. Watch this space and see what happens.

Hello all!

Its been a while but i'm back again, loads of changed in the tank since last update.

My Ritteri nem is doing great, feeding well and not moved since introduced. So i have now bought another red footed ritteri which is stunning. The new Halides really do seem to be doing the trick.
Also purchased an engineer goby which was very large, only problem was that it destroyed the rock work by burrowing. In the end after trying in vain to trap it i decided to take all 100Kg of rock work out and finally got it. Very pleased this happened though as i now have re-built the whole scape and got to intergrate most of the corals in-between, Ill get some full tank shots up as soon as i fix the camera.
Other news is the four electric blue damsels i put in just to add a bit more colour and movement, i now only have one left as the carpet anemone took a liking to them.

Need some help finding somewhere to buy a large Xenia, really want to add some movement to the tank but can only find frags, even LFS has struggled to find a large one.
Any ideas?

It would help if we knew where you were located :) Big difference between US and UK :D

I really like the tank :)

Can't wait for new pics :snap:

LOL, not very local then!!!!

No, I haven't got my Lion yet, my tank is still in cycling mode  probably be at least a month untill I even start looking. I am sooooo looking forward to getting it though :good:

Where about are you if you are 300 miles from hampshire, I am in Lacashire myself, in a month or two I should be able to frag my Xenia, if you are local I could perhaps supply you with one. They grow very quickly anyway so a frag would become a large one in a short space of time.
