Well, finally got my new tank filled and cycling so I thought I'd start a journal, show a few pictures

Sorry about the crapness of picture, still getting to grips with new camera

Added 5ppm Homebase 9% ammonia solution on sunday (2/9/07), ammonia now approximately 4ppm as far as I can tell using my API test. Is this normal, should it be taking this long (8 days and counting)

I'm planning to stock with a shoal of harlequins, shoal of rummynoses, a pair of rams, a trio of apistos, several cory's (hopefully julii), BN catfish and maybe a pearl gourami. Does this sound ok, are they all compatible?

Any input appreciated

JC

Nice tank :good:

If you are using a new filter with new media then it will take a little time to kick off.

What temperature are you running it at?

its at about 25/26, i had a bit of trouble with high temp to start off with, it was about around 27/28 but its stabilised now

just wanted to say i think a slightly higher temp is better for cycling, anyone feel free to correct me if im wrong, looking forward to your tank as it grows

xXx

yes it is sand substrate. the filter is the eheim pro 2 2026

no new pictures to update currently, im not sure if i am happy with the tanks position in the room so i may move it, as where it is, if you step anywhere infront of it it causes the tank to wobble slightly due to the floorboards i think

Hi,

Nice tank,

I cycled my tank at 30c. It can take over 2 weeks for nitrite to appear that means no change in ammonia.

Keep with it - it will take about 6 weeks.

Well, time for an update folks. Finally gor around to moving my fish over, as well as the old filter, will run the old fluval 2+ along with my new eheim 2026 until the 2026 is cycled. Would 2 weeks be enough for this or do i need longer? Will be adding more plants soon, the ones currently in there were the only half decent ones the lfs had at the time.

Nice tank, i think if you added alot more plants along the back you would have a very nice looking tank indeed, if you get fast growers it will help stop algae as well.

that's the plan. like i said, the only ones the lfs had that werent half dead were these, i will be adding more soon once they get more in :good:

I thought the Elodea was plastic lol.

If it is real you will need something to feed the plants as there will be no nutrient's in the sand yet

You tank looks nice and clean. Is that bogwood real?
