I have been playing around with diffuser and spray bar placement and i think i have found my optimum positioning. i have mounted the diffuser at the front left, spray bar vertically in rear corner pointing straight forward at the co2 bubble flow.

I have also removed the add on tube which goes on the outlet of the juwel filter to create a gentle whirlpool effect in the tank. finally i have co2 mist in all corners of the tank and from substrate to surface. the pics cant show this well enough but it really is everywhere.
i cant wait to get the plants now...

thanks chris. i am having the usual algae issues at present as i am so lightly planted. as i now have co2 back up and running i am off to the LFS to buy a ton of plants this morning to give the tank a little stablity. i will stuff it with fast growers initially but the longer term plan is a big substrate carpet, probably HC, lots of red stems grouped into sections dutch style for the background then odd feature plants in the mid ground. i want to try madasgar lace plants and a few differend species of anubias. apart from that i'll just add bits as i go along to swop out the initial fast growers.

Howya Jim, I haven't been on here in an age and I come back to this monster tank project. Looks great so far. I'll be watching with interest as I have my eye on a 5 footer that I have no space for!

Hi Andy, long time no speak. Hope your well. You can always make room mate if all else fails get rid of the bath tub and make do with a shower. that should give you about 5 foot lol

finally i've got some plants in the tank. forgive the lack of names, they dont label anything in my LFS but luckily they had quite a selection today. i also bought 9 otto's and 6 zebra danio's (moving home later on)

i had a touch of whitespot which unfortunately wiped out my existing cardinals so i'm now thinking of other options for stocking. i definitely want one big shoal i just cant decide what of. after seeing 6 danio's zipping around there i'm tempted to stock something a little more lively. i may even go for 8 angels hmm decisions decisions. anyway sorry for all the pictures i got carried away.

All well here, jimbooo.... Tanks looks great already, even with just those few plants.......

Speaking stocking..... I was never a huge fan of Rummy-Noses but I added a shoal of 10 for color and movement and they're a wonderful little fish. Always active and shoaling........ and cheap!

thats a possibility mate. the misses is the problem lol. we google imaged a ton of fish i like last night and lets just say there were a lot of no's. i didn't show her rummy nose tetras though, worth a try. TBH she loves angels so thats looking like the most likley at present. i'll keep you posted.

right the decisions made, thanks for the comments but i have bought 10 juv angels currently in quarantine at the LFS, pick up next weekend. they are exactly the same as the angel in my 180 for those that remember (edit. he's in my avatar) only these are about 1.5 inches tall at present.

torpedo barbs...now there's an idea thanks mate. they should mix well with the angels as well. now the question is about breeding. i want to give the angels the option of breeding, will the barbs deter them from this? nothing ever spawned in my 180 even with great water quality, good food etc.. i have put this down to the dense stocking of a range of fish each putting the other off any reproductive activity. kind of a no point as they'll eat the babies kind of thing. i may be deluding myself but is there any sound grounding to my theory anyone?

i really should call juwel about this tank, i had to send them pics of my 180 once when the brace cracked and they were very impressed. it's gotta be worth a call anyway, i could try and get free tubes and media.

Thanks Sam, i didn't want to fall into the trap of spreading everything out just because it's bit. i want to end up with something stunning so i'll need very vivid blocks of colour in there for the look i have in mind. with the plants so close together hopefully that's what i'll end up with. I bought 2 Aponogeton ulvaceus and one Aponogeton madagascariensis (nifty bit of copy/pasting there lol) from Home Marine in Enfield today. they look great i'll post a picture next week when the angels go in.

Planting looks nice.

Torpedo barbs are super active and may put the angels off breeding. They prefer high flow too, where angels don't.

Tetras are better suited for angels IMHO. Same continent too (mostly).

Good luck trying to blag stuff from Juwel...

Arcadia are going to be supplying T5s to fit the Juwel ballasts BTW.

Red line torpedo barbs..

I really like these, and was considering some for my tank, but the local MA advised against them in a tank that is fed CO2. Checked on the net and the MA site says the same, but not much elsewhere. Just throwing this into the discussion for info.

Most fish are fine with CO2 as long as there's sufficient O2 too.

Torpedo barbs need higher O2 than some, so good surface agitation and flow are the order of the day. You'll go through more CO2 but it's a worthwhile trade-off.

For me though it would be one or the other - angels or torpedos. They're both 'feature' fish, so having the two together is OTT IMHO.
