Jimbooo's Jungle Journal 2 (rio 180 - 40g)

hiya everyone. 2 weeks on since last post. time for an update.

i have replaced the 10,000K with another fresh water tube so i now have the following

2x 7500K
1X 4000K
1X 3000K

however they are all a bit old and in need of changing. the pictures will look a little warmer than the last ones due to this

sorry for the repeted pics but it's easier to compare growth over time without flicking pages

for some reason the cardinal tetras spend most of the day over the riccia. they dont swim behind the ludwigia and java fern till about 8pm then they stay there till morning? i dont get this as the lights dont start to wind down till 9.30. there is no daylight at all on the tank so i have no idea how they tell the time. rest assured though 8pm sharp and they vanish. wierd

thats about it folks. hope you like the changes, i'm rather chuffed with the riccia i seem to have got rid of the hair algae and it's really healthy again thank god.

i am about to edit the riccia pinned thread with these pics so sorry if your about to look at them again. i think the comparrisson after time will be usefull for people thinking of taking the riccia plunge.

please feel free to comment if anything looks out of place dont be polite just say it. no one else ever sees the tank apart from you ladies and gentlemen and the misses (and she couldn't care less)

if anyone reading this has not seen the pinned thread on how to create the riccia carpet in my tank read all about it here (with pics)

Stunning m8ty, nice pics. Love the cory shots.
Might want too keep an eye on the glosso though its pretty invasive and will swamp your riccia.

thanks mate. funny you should say that i have been letting it creep to the left, so far it's send out 2 runners along the front pane look a the "riccia fluitians now" pic. i would love it to grow right along the front hiding the gravel and then stop but i'm worried about it then traveling front to back throught the riccia fluitians in turn messing it all up. should i rip that bit up now? the riccia is the more important thing as it is rather an effort to redo.

thanks for the compliment and construstive comments, most appreciated.

I think ( hope), you can as I'm trying to do something similar with my glosso, i need to stop it growing through my grasses. I was planing on snipping the runners as they got to the grass.

Have you new plants or are you just moving things around? and how do you keep the 2 riccias seperate for replanting, or do you just let some float off and then tie down again..........pssst.....i can see 2 snails

Mate, that is one GOOD looking tank! Very impressed!
I had taken out all my riccia, it just wan't going anywhere but i'm redoing it this weekend after seeing that.

A contender in any contest, IMO.

....Those corys are beautiful, BTW

i'll keep a close eye on it at present it seems to be behaving. not for long though i'm sure

same plants, just moved around a bit. to be honest mate the floating stuff in my tank is useless as it's a mixture of the two and rather messy. i've got so much of the damn stuff i just chuck out the floaty bits pull the clumps out in one piece and then split into 2 bowls. one dwarf and one fluitians

here's the bowls from last time. rather a lot of it isn't there (the square bowl is the rubbish)

Very good James.

For me though the Riccia is too overwhelming at the moment, I imagine you have plans though eh?

i know what you mean mate but no real plans as per usual. just kind of waiting for something to go wrong to give rise to the next step. the cory's do love the riccia and it brightens up the whole tank i think i'll leave it alone for now anyway. it'll all fall apart within 2 months anyway.

Sat here looking at my Rio 180 still sat in its box and am really looking forward to getting it up and running and planted out, i guess being new to aquariums i had just been thinking about fish but checking out the pictures of the fantastically planted out tanks i can see there are several hobbies wrapped up in one.

I is very excited :hyper:

All your tanks look damn good as usual Jimbooo! Go for the competition, you have an excellent chance, good luck with it.
