Hi I am thinking of getting a jewel pair tank. I am just wondering if a pair of lionhead cichlids would survive the jewels aggression.

The tank is 4ft and 55 gallon/210 liters.

If they lionhead pair would not survive its ok as the jewels are what I am really looking forward to but the lionheads are cool too.

The habitats are different. If Lionheads are Steatocranus casuarius, they come from high flow environments, and everything about them, especially their reduced swim bladders and broodcare, is adaptation to the edge of torrential rapids.
Meanwhile, some jewels are sometimes found in roadside ditches, ponds, and low flow waters. Their broodcare and territory would be demolished in the reaches of the Congo system where buffaloheads hail from.
It makes any kind of tank designed for the fish kind of hard to pull off.
Since the buffaloheads like to live with their noses poking out caves though, they probably could weather the aggressive phases of jewel life. They would just hide. In better phases, they would try to kill the jewels, but since they have a reduced buoyancy, they never catch anything.

I thought you meant a lionhead goldfish. Lol

The worst thing to keep with aggressive cichlids is other cichlids.
