Hello

i have a Jewel 180 (180ltr i think) can you please advise what size external filter is best for my tank, i have been looking at Maidenheads own efx range oe what would you recommend please
thanks for your help

Paul

I would recommend getting a filter for 400-600 litres, as for maidenheads i have never used them but they look a good price, and the media is really cheap for them (i was in there the other day, sefton maidenhead)

hi thank i was in a local brance and they said to use efx 200 as the efx 400 or 600 would have to much flow is this true would bigger be better?

new to external i am using a U4 internal at moment
thank you

the efx 400 would be a great choice if wanting one of theirs.

Tetratec ex1200 gets my vote, but i'm a bit biased

If your worried about the flow rate you could always point the output nozzle at the glass or get a spray bar, i use 2 fluval 305 with the 1 output for my 275 litre tank and i don't have any flow problems. But i would recommend getting a filter for a tank size 2-3 time bigger.

Hi i dint even think about it till they said was looking at efx 400 or 600 not sure what size i should go for then the shop said exf 200 so left with out any totaly confussed?

I've just bought & fitted an APS 1400 in a 200 ltr tank after reading the APS thread on here and using the discount code mentioned. So got it for £51 including next day delivery. Seems good enough but I've nothing to compare it to.

A lot of people seem to recommend the Fluval 305. Have a read of that other thread entitled APS.

the 200 is only for tanks up to 200 litres which means your tank is at the top limit, i would recommend the 400 or 600.

The 200 would do fine, but the 400 filters UPTO 1400 litres an hour, which will probably be more around the 1000 mark and will be a nice filter for your tank.

ok thanks so 400 ltr size is the smallest i should be looking at ? would 600 be to big sorry i am new to externals so not sure

I don't rate the 05 series from fluval, i have had a 205 and 305, both have noisy impellers. APS flow rates are nothing anywhere near their stated flow rates. the 2000 has been proven to pump out 900lph.

My 180 is running a Fluval 305 and a TetraTEC ex1200.
