Hi, I recently bought Mopani wood, (I know there is a thread on this But its not white fur)
any how I have like a Jelly on it, and also in the middle of one of my rocks. the jelly seems to have what looks like bubbles of air trapped or something similar very hard to describe,
I think there are some specs in them,
Is this possibly eggs or something I have never bread fish so I dont know, and if they are will they hatch or have they not yet been fertilized......
I have a male and female Neon tetra,
If these are eggs how should I deal with it?
Remove the wood and rock into a new tank or leave it be untill they come out then try to get them fast
I want them to survive if this is the case,
thanks very much for the help. my head spinning

Not possible I dont have snails in my tank never have never will,
And compared to snail eggs this is totally different, Imagine
Jelly that you eat its similar like that but transparent to a certain extent,

Hi,

Its me who posted the white fur. ITs odd stuff this mopani and i thought i had researched all i could. guess not.

How can you know for certain you will never get snails? do you add any chemicals?

If you read my post someone has mentioned a bit about jelly in that, that you may find useful

Because I dont see how its possible,
I know what snail eggs look like,
To get snail eggs you need snails in the first place,
I understand you may think they were on the wood but,
I put it under boiling water,
And the jelly aint just on the wood but also on a rock,
if it is snail eggs,
LET THE WAR BEGIN

but seriously I hope its eggs from my tetras
they have been playing games recently,

This must be the question of the day! Not snail eggs. Likely a mold/fungus stuff that a lot of people get w/ Mopani wood. It traps air bubbles and stuff as it develops. If you touch it, it feels kind of slimy and it will sort of ... deflate.. almost. "Some people" :shifty: (not to mention any names... vinylman!) have never had the problem, but if you google "mopani AND 'white slime'" you get a boatload of hits. I eventually gave up and got a different kind of wood, as boiling & scrubbing never seemed to make a difference.

if it is the wood your saying it can cause it to happen on rocks about 6inches away?

i may be wrong but i thought snails could grow from another source, not necessarily from snails already in there?
plants etc?? (il let one of the experts correct me)

I understand you dont or never have had any snails. but i believe you could get them.

not sure about the jelly, i wouldnt say snails or eggs but a fungi.

As for tetras! dirty buggers!

Im trying to find images of the white fur on mopani wood with no luck any sources?
maybe these will eat it, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otocinclus
any how what ever it is, It catches crap in the tank good :p

Im going to upload some pictures,
Give me moment,

Say its fungus and I cry(but have good dirt catcher), I want baby tetras
sorry bad quality pictures. Used my mobile,
Mind you why is it on the rock also.

looking at your pic its like mine. Hopefully soon the experts will be along with answers!

Thats more Jelly than fur,
Do you have it any other place other than the wood?

I've seen that stuff in my girlfriend's betta tank, but I'm not sure what it is, honestly. Every time we do a water change....I pull that stuff out for sure. I'm thinking it's an algae of some sort, since that stuff gets sucked up in the gravel vacuum very easily.
