Hi all,

Well my filter arrived ahead of schedule (wasn't expecting it til next week) and man, I was impressed with the weight of the big box it came in!

Unpacking it, the contents were pretty basic, and some a little flimsy (the hose is pretty good tough stuff, but the connectors, be careful with these and work the hose on very gradually, I very nearly broke one!

You get PLENTY of hose (more that with most kits, enough for me to put the filter on the floor, and run them up to the top two corners of my 18" tall tank, and still hav a good 10" to remove...

You also get plenty of suckers, and a nice touch, short or long clips to attach the pipe work to the suckers, you also get a spray bar, but i haven't used that.

Its been running for about 30min now, silently, and I mean, you wouldn't even know it was on! I really wasn't expecting that, as, it was a little flimsy in places, despite the weight.

(p.s. you also get a piece of moulded polystyrene that is the exact footprint of the bottom of the filter - very handy to stand it on!)

So score wise:

Components: 7/10 (afraid they may eventually break with maintainance).
Quality: 9/10 well its silent, and the flow seems very decent...
Ease of use: 10/10 I've had many filters over the years, this one was COMPLETE childs play
Look: 8/10 its innofensive, and not as massively large as I was led to believe, but it is much bigger than equivilent Fluval models.

Overall: 8.5/10 not bad!

I'll revisit this when I've had it longer, any questions on prospective buyers of it (at its rather attractive price) do carry on!

Here's a quick pic:

Just got myself one of these filters today (JBL are about to start an offer on these for £49). I have decided to try it out on my 125ltr as my impeller has broke on the Hydor. I'm very impressed by this filter. As above the outlet and inlet are a little flimsy, but being the owner of an APS before, i can say that they are better quality than those. It really is the quietest thing in the world, there is nothing in the way of noise coming from it.

heres a quick iphone pic of the flow rate

Is that a national offer? I'm after one myself and the saving would be marvelous!

I was checking out the newer series eX01 that is more energy efficient. All jbl filters seem to be the smallest size ones for the correspobding LPH values. E1501/e1500 is the largest filter I can fit into my juwel vision 180 cabinet.

just another quick vid of the actual flow rate of these things...(packed with media)

tis a beast!

Wow - impressive. My eheim 2224 (also rated 700lph) was never able to do that...

May be I don't need 1500 series and 900 would be enough for my planted 150L then...

the 900 should be fine, but you can alter the flow rates on these with taps.

Thanks for your review nurglepuss. It should help people decide whether or not to go for this filter.

No problem :)

Your welcome!

When I get my next tank and get the largest JBL e series, I'll do a flow rate analysis too :)
