Hi everyone.

I had my Java Moss over a month now and it's still not grown....

I have tried using Black Water extract on it to get it grownin(guy at store said its good for it)
and yet nothing...

Heres a picture of it..

Any advice?

It's grown enough already!Trim it and spread the cuttings over a new place of slate/wood.

it has to be very thin, It takes a long time to get started but when it does it goes wild....
I did hear about some one left it in the dark for a while untill It started to go yellow then put it in the water,
apparently this encourages it to grow faster, (might not be 100% correct)

Hey dude,

Yea initially it will take a couple months to really thick out. This is a really fast growing plant once it's established. Instead of a rock though i would suggest a big piece of driftwood and get more java moss if you can manage and spread it out on the java moss, it'll take a couple months to root itself in and start to grow. Java moss can grow with just water and light ti's a great hardy plant. I would highly suggest wood to grow on instead of a rock, i think the end result would be alot nicer aswell

Thats how I bought it hehe.
It was already on the slate I like the slate though.

I want it to carpet the bottom of the tank I was told just to place slate in tank and leave it.....
Oh and to put afew gravel bits in which I did.

What does the gravel do?

I'm going to attempt to set something like this up myself, I'm boiling the rocks right now.

adhearing it to the gravel wont work. It can float aswell. It wont look as great as what you are trying to do. This is a plant that should be stuck to driftwood and rocks at the most. the look your trying to get with java moss as a foreground carpet plant just wont look good. I think you maybe want to look at HC or Dwarf hairgrass as a option. I've not seen a tank use java moss as a carpet plant... that actually looks nice. It will just be a mess of moss if you can actually get it to stick and stay at the bottom. I'd advise against it.. but just my 2 cents.

Pet shop person needs to learn a bit more - Black Water extract will have little or nothing in it to majorly benefit any plant let alone moss specifically. Something like Tropica Plant Nutrition or SeaChem Flourish is a better bet. Java moss is, as said, something that grows pretty slow especially at first.

He's already got it attached to slate.

if you look at that picture as i have, it does not look attractive as it would on driftwood instead of a carpet plant, again was just my 2 cents. that was my "advice" he was asking for

I agree nicklfire java moss is nicest on drift wood but this is not to say it can look good as a foreground carpet for prove i seem to remember aqauticmagic on ebay having some pictures of it in this manner and its VERY pleasing on the eye.
I would however say that java moss is hardly a tidy moss and you may find it troublesome to get it to grow really thickly.

I have java moss in my tank with lots of light and it still took 2 months give or take to really take off so don't worry it will soon start to grow just keep trimming it and reusing the trimmings by tying them onto more slate and you'll be flying.

I'd like to see a nice setup tank with a carpet of java moss, be interested as i dont think i've seen it in the long time. so if anyones got pictures.

I've seen alot of great moss wall setups.. but not carpets.

But that's the thing with this hobby, you can do whatever you really want, whatever makes you happy. I could be entirely wrong as far as the java moss looking not as pleasing as on driftwood. That's just my opinion aswell but i'm sure there are people that prefer it covering the ground. Making decisions and learning from mistakes is what it's all about, god knows i've made tons of them , but always learning :)
