Jacks Rio 125 (to Be Named)

Some of mine started to melt again after 6 months!!! Just from upping the flow and moving some of the equipment. The slightest change can affect Crypts. lol

It's quite funny that it wsn't all of them. Just the Becketti, Willisii and Wendtii Tropica really. All the rest were OK

Are you doing a fish in cycle then? Tsk tsk! hehe

Other than that, looks like it's going to be a really nice setup! I'm planning on planting my tank soon, too. :)

fish in cycle is the most common method with planed tanks. We usually start off with 75% susbtrate coverage of plants, and 50% daily water changes to keep the ammonia down. Both these factors mean that the fish are not harmed.

because all the fish came from my old tank, i transfered all of the old mature media to the new tank, so instant cycle :fun:

i was just wondering, i know the C.becketti will grow to around 6 inches and the C.willisi will grow to 8 inches, are there any other species you can reccomend to fill inn between the vallis and the willisi?

IME becketti gets taller than willisii. Mine Willisii is about 6 inches tall and the Becketti nearing 8 inches. they are both under 3 months old though and therefore may get bigger yet.

oh ok, thanks for that ill see how they do, are they fast growers? ( i know it depends on dosing etc) how tall will wendtii get about 8"?

Again depends. Crypts seem to make their own minds up. I have some Wendtii that is 3-4" but spreads wide and others that are 6-8" and growing upward rather than spreading.

I had some Crypt Spiralis 3ft long and Balansae over 2ft when I sold them on a few months back. They just got too big for the tank. I currently have some 18" Undulata.

Tropica say Undulata should get to 25cm ish......ermm Nope. Saying that I would always buy Tropica because they are great quality and good quantity.

all of my plants are tropica and i would never go any other way, they are excellent quality, and i have no crypt melt so far (after 2 weeks)

Cut it off at any height, as long as you leave a few leaves on.. Also when replanting the top half, pull a few of the bottom leaves off so it leaves a stem so you can plant it easily.
