Just wondering, I have my JD setup in a 55 gall w/ a brislenose plec. Its got plenty of rocks and driftwood, and a few plants. My questions.

I was goint to add a rubbernose plec, would that be okay?

Was wondering about other tankmates I could add for long term housing w/ the Dempsey in the 55 gal?

Ive had firemoutes, a pictus cat. and common plecs with my JD. I think yur rubbernose plec would be fine also.

The plec will be fine and if your jd turns out anything like mine, it will shadow the plec and almost hang around with it. My common plec and JD are always near eachother.

I would recomend getting some dithers for your tank too. I have giant danios and since I've added them 4 or 5 monthes back, I have seen my JD mellow out and he seems to feel more comfortable in the tank. Good luck with the JD! :good:

How old/big is the dempsey? In my experience if they are young and small you have a 50/50 shot of it working out. If the dempsey is older then he will probably not like an intruder on his territory. It really all depends on the temperment of your dempsey and luck. If it were me, I'd only try it if the dempsey is young and has a good temperment. Unfortunately every dempsey I have owned is a bully and does not like ANYONE in his/her tank unless they are MUCH bigger then the dempsey.

If the JD's claimed his territory, it might be a risk trying to add a Severum. Maybe with some re-arranging of the decorations to break JD's territory first, but it still could end in bloodshed. They won't have much room to get away from each other in a 55...

If he's only 2 inches there should be plenty of space to escape from one another.Still idlefingers i very much agree with you :good:

I have a Leopard Spotted Sailfin Pleco in with my JD and when Picasso the plec comes out Jack the JD uses his huge fin to hide behind. It works for a short time but always ends up with Picasso getting annoyed and chasing Jack around the tank.

I wouldnt recommend adding any other cichlids into the tank. Full grown the 55 is just big enough for the JD. Yes, its 2" right now, but it will grow up and you will need a bigger tank in a year or so with a sev. I would only add some dithers if you want to add more fish

With dithers (or diversion fish, whats with that stupid abbreviation?!..anyway) a sev and a Jd (just as an example) the tank would be overstocked.I can't see any dithers smaller then a silver dollar living with a JD.Once the fish are getting to adulthood there will probably be some complications i should think, even if they do grow up together.Don't forget aswell that some sevs may reach 12', which should then have around a 75 gallon tank.

I have giant danios with my jd and have not seen one bit of aggression towards the danios from the jd, but as I think i've learned from reading about other's jd's, mine must be a lover, not a fighter because he is very docile.... just throwing the stocking option out there
