I had a 3.5'' severum eat a 2'' giant danio..

If you raise the jd and severum up together I don't see why you'd need dithers.

The jd will probably just be shy for a few weeks.. That's what mine was like when I first got it, shy for a few weeks.

Update

Well, all seems to be going fine. Current stock lisk in the 55 gal is the 2 inch JD, a 2 inch Oscar, a 2 inch pictus, a 2 inch bristlenose plec, and a 2 inch rubbernose plec.

No signs of aggresion at all, occasionally they bump each other during feeding, but nothing that looks intentional. Plan on adding a pair of breeding cons but probably after I move to 90gal or better.

DO not add breeding cons.They have the reputation to kill anything when breeding...

wont get much money in them i dowt cos everyone who has them breeds them even if unplanned<easy to breed>just add water

No, I don't plan on selling them cause like you said they are a dime a dozen. But I am concerned, even in a 90 gal, you think the pair of cons would hurt/kill an adult JD or Oscar? Are they really that bad?

If not cons how about firemouths?

from my exsperience cons are evil when they are breeding
you may get away with a pair of firemouths....but the tank may be a little limiting
if i was you i would only go for 1 con should be ok with that but breeding you really need a seperate tank

In your 90g you plan on keeping a JD, Oscar, 2 plecs, and a pictus..

If you ask me, adding more fish isn't a good idea. Especially not anything with the ability to breed with anything else. ex-convicts or firemouths.

Not to mention pictus cats should be in groups

Really? So is it just not a good idea to add the breeders in a 90, or should I go for something bigger? How about a single con or single FM? Also I've heard alot of different sides on pictus cats, I hear the school when small but fight once mature which is why I only got 1

Anyone know for sure?

You could add a convict and a firemouth(bearing in mind aggression problems between the oscar and Jd with them).Just not any breeding pairs.

Would they crossbreed? Would anything crossbreed out of an Oscar JD, COn, and firemouth?

I think all of them could, not sure though.-T- seems to know what fish can crossbreed.I would ask in the hybred orum Chances are very unlikely anyways
