i got this cichlid, i don't know what kind it is, because i was buying feeders for my oscar and snook and found a cichlid i belive. Its like 3in long and is in a tank with my balas and rainbow sharks.

If you could tell me what type you "think" it is, and if its healthy the the stomach is. i have had it for about 2 months.

Something about it does not seem right?

It seems like the head to too big for the body it has, and seems like it is bloated?

You can click in my sig where it says African Cichlid Index, to see if you can't identify what type of Cichlid it is?

Someone who knows a little more than me will help you out more.

I would let it age a bit before trying to identify it. It doesnt look very healthy. It looks almost sickly. And any cichlid 3 inches long should have more color to it.

well the stomach area went down but its hard try to find what it needs for food so i been feeding it, my balas and rainbows cichild gold, flakes, freeze dried blood worms.

!!!!! thats why it my have bloat because you arnt meant to feed cichlids bloodworm as it can give them bloat

i never feed my oscars blood worms my balas loves the bloodworms so thats why i feed that tank the bloodworms. And i don't want to kill it so tonight im feeding it bloodworms to see if thats the cause and if so im going to put it in the tank with oscars and hope it doesn't get eaten

i think i found the answer i think its because its a food hog and eating to much i feed it last night and it was eating everything insight and got a little bloated with cichlid gold and the same tonight with bloodworms so its not going to the oscars. And i think its something called a black ear because the too black spots are the same place on both gills

Yes, take some frozen pea's, and put them in the micro wave. Then take the shell off, and let it cool , then feed the mush to him. It will clear the bloat out.

Either it's a Bluegill or a Green Sunfish. Those guys are great as pets, but I don't think the Green sunfish would be a good idea to have with other cichlids. As far as the gut goes it just looks like it has been eating well.

bluegill are good pets?? i can catch them in my pond! are bluegill even cichlids?

also i feed my jewels and blue cichlids bloodworms all the time!

you just cant overfeed them. i think it can cause hole in the head.

Freeze dried foods can cause bloating if you feed to many.
I won't buy freeze dried foods anymore as they would make my fish bloat up.
I would feed some peas.
