If you don't get any joy with the other suggestions, maybe try antihistamines from the vet, they gave Gena piriton for unknown irritation, they thought she was high stress because she was a jack russel X whippet, so think tense and flighty and like on 24hrs of coffee if she was a person. Oooo ooo if he's itching one spot of his back, has he been wormed recently? When it comes to dogs nibbling their backs the two main culprits tend to be fleas and worms. I think Stronghold covers one type of worm (I *do* know which but I'm hungover and can't remember), so it might be better using Frontline instead of Stronghold and then Drontal for worming, as Drontal covers them all.
