Well some of you saw the ripped up VT that I got from Wal-Mart last week. That one, as expected, did not make it. I think he had some pretty severe internal injuries. I wastched him die and it was the most viloent death I have ever seen on a fish. Very disturbing.

Anyway, last night I am out at Wal-Mart and as I go to get dog food, I notice another VT in the exact same situation. Same thing, the pet department girl told me that someone has been coming into the store and putting the males together.

I went and talked to the same manager again (when I asked if he remembered what we discussed three days ago he said "vaguely" )I showed him I had found another one and it is absolutely disgusting. I told him if they are going to keep living things in their store they need to treat them as such. Someone needs to supervise that department, and if fish do get sick, or in a fight in this case, that they need to be treated not put up for sale. I also asked him again if they had a stereo break if it would be put back on the shelf with a note saying "Good Luck! Hope you can fix it! We sure ain't gonna try!" :grr: :grr: :grr:

Anyway, sorry for the long ramble, but I am seriously ticked off. I shouldn't have to be responsible for the fish that they choose to sell in their stores  I really don't have the room for a bunch of sick VTs but I also feel that I cannot, morally, leave them there when I know there is something I can do to help that fish :/

Here is is when I first got him home, this is the best picture I could get. I now have him in a one gallon bowl in salt, bettamax, and stresscoat. I am happy to report that this morning he is up and swimming and he ate breakfast with the rest of the crew

He said vaguely?!? :grr:  I hate them sometimes. Why's it so hard to find a person who gives a flip?!

I feel your pain, girlfriend. All I can recommend is 1-800-Walmart. I'm quite the tattletail these days :/ I tell the manager that I'm going home to call the number and that I'll be back tomorrow. The last time I looked...they didn't have any bettas.
Best wishes to Jack II

aww sorrell you have such a kind heart to take these poor litte fellas in! Isnt' there something you can do about the situation as a whole? it seems like the stupid manager can't give a flying crap! It's great that you're taking htem in and all, but in a long way it's not gonan work :( whoever put the first apir of vts together will do it again and again and again, you can't possibly save every last one of htem

Exactly :/
Trust me..I've tried. That how I wound up with 40 someodd VT's

The thing about Wal-Mart though is that they make it impossible not to go there. If I want dog food or decholinator or anything of the sort, you have to go there. So seeing the bettas in unavoidable. What I'm hoping is that the person who is doing this is a Tech student which would mean if he arrived the first day that he did this, he'll be gone in 4 months. I will call 1-800-WALMART though and voice my concerns. It's just not right :/

Wal-Mart isnt the only store to have ripped up bettas on their shelves. Five days ago i picked up Massillon who either had a massive case of fin rot or was pitted against another, or BOTH! I understand compleatly how you feel!!! Your heart just goes out to the little guy... :-(
I hope that guy/girl/whatever that put them together is caught and placed in a ring with the hulk or something... Great job on taking Jack II in, best of luck from both Massillon and I!

Here's a picture of Massillon's Fins.

Sorrell, little off topic but...

How much bettamax and salt did you add? :dunno: Did you make Wuv's Betta Koolaid? :dunno:

I'm going to petco tomorrow and I have a spare 1gal...... :shifty:

Well I kinda have the betta-bartenders wrist as Kelly has quoted her self as having. I can tell you though that I predisolved everything in a cup before I add it. I think bettamax is 1 capsule for five gallons, so i just mix the one fifth of the capsule. If I have one that I know I'm going to be doing lots of water changes on, then I will mix a 5 gallon bucket and just use it out of there -_-

I am so outraged!!!!! I will be writing a letter to the editor of our local paper on those fishes behalf...I hope Wal-Mart realizes that business should not be done at the cost of any "life", even if that life is "just' a fish...by the way Yoshi says hi to his Aunty :D

well done sorrell
down here in australia we have the R.S.P.C.A = the Royal Socioty Preventing the Cruelty of Animals. and they would take care of any animals, i got my doggie from there and they would surely go and shut the betta dept. down if they saw what was happening there, im sure you have something similer to the RSPCA in america

We do, its actualy called the R.S.P.C.A. in some states, A.S.P.C.A in others. I got a doggy from there too once long ago! :)

Yeah,if you try calling them about fish...they completely wet all over themselves  They'll transfer you here and there...then over there  Nobody knows how to handle the situation when it comes to fish.
