While doing a routine water change yesterday I ended up cleaning the house too, some of you will have guessed what happened already but here is what happened. I emptied about 10L of dirty tank water and gave the filter a clean and .... emptied it outside as I usually do. however on the return journey with another 10L of freshly poured water the bucket snapped along the rim right where the handle attaches, so I lost nearly 10L of water over a sofa (with non removable cusions), all over me and my living room floor  (thankfully it was clean water)

I left the fish in their tank mid water change while hurrying to get the towels and mop to limit the spread of the water, and with a little help moved the sofa outside to dry at which point it started raining 10 mins after so that had to be brought back in then to top it all off my filter stopped working when I reconnected it after finally getting water into the tank.

I guess it was jut one of those days lol. :/

Nightmare, like you said - at least it was clean water!

I hate days like that..

We've all had our episodes!

I remember when I accidently allowed half of my lighting unit fall in the tank and under the water. Needless to say I was waiting for an explosion of some sort. Luckily I got away with the whole thing ;)

Or I remember the time I changed the substrate, so I did a big water change and went to the LFS to pick the new gear up. Came back to find I left my heater on and it literally burnt in half. Lucky I didn't burn my entire stock... Luckily, I got away with the whole thing ;) Just needed a new heater

first time I set up my new external filter and filled my tank with water, I didn't manage to get the lid on properly to get a tight seal, and unbeknown to myself, turned on the primer and it proceeded to pump water out all over my wood flooring.

Not a good day in fish world :X

Oh dear!!! Yes, I know what it feels like when things go wrong like that.

I had a bad experience once with a brand new internal filter. Put it in, attached the little plastic tube thing that hangs outside of the aquarium (with the little knob adjuster on it), switched it on and suddenly heard water running and splashing onto the unit! It was coming out of the plastic tubing - so in my panic I pulled the plastic tube off the filter and WHOOOOSH - tank water was shooting upwards like a fountain out of the filter. It went everywhere - up the walls, over me (Yuk!), over the unit, over the new oak flooring...surprising how much water escaped in that short time of me switching it on to switching it off!

Needless to say, I returned the filter and was given a replacement - but ever since then I am very nervous when setting up any new filters.

I had a similar one to that.
On my 40th birthday I had so many wonderful things to do....not...that I decide to re-scape a tank and somehow messed up the hoses to the external. Took the dogs for a walk, and came home to find the tank had emptied itself all barring two inches of water.
Oh! Did I mention the tank was in my bedroom and the water was coming through the ceiling in to the living room! It's amazing how much floor 40 usg of water can cover!

Beat that!!! :hyper:

Ive had 2 bad experiences, the first I set up my external filter incorrectly, left it, to return to 60 litres of water on the floor, the carpet was soaked and again dripping, almost gushing into the kitchen.

Another time I finally got around to adding more sand to my tank, and it went crack, I inspected and there was a crack across the bottom of the tank, luckily though I managed to empty it before it collapsed. Hopefully that is the last of my bad luck with tanks (touch wood)

ahh the joys of fishkeeping eh !!

One time when I clean the filter and put it back, there was a tiny snail wedge in the filter seal..

But I keep my filters in thick rubber bags and I have water level alarm..

Poor you.

That's the reason why I paid £10 for 3 buckets. I got mine from Screwfix, they are builders bucket so extra tough, unlike the B&Q £1 each ones.
