Well I don't know too much regarding genetics (maybe he's supposed to look like that? ) but he seems really unproportioned. His chest area is very large compared to his body and his head looks very pointy. :dunno:

There are some sellers that will load their fish up on food then take a picture and that would cause the fish to look bigger than he would normally be. I don't know that all sellers would do this.

He is very pretty tho I have purchased from stingrays before he is very nice seller.

I was just wandering through aquabid and i came across this little guy and wondered wether he was healthy or not;

His stomache/chest seems very large/swollen in proportion to the rest of his body, is this normal, a sign of bad genes or somthing else? Just wondering...

I would put money or dropsey cos even his are swelling a shame cos he was a nice specimen

That's not dropsy....the fish has just eaten too much.

If you're interested in the fish...e-mail the breeder and ask for another picture...I bet you'll see he doesn't look like that.

I have seen lot's of fish from StingRay..and check out his Feedback..it's perfect. I doubt he's resorted to selling bunk fish.

Thanks for the info everybody, so he just ate too much...I think it would be better if the breeder hadn't fed him so much before the pic as some people like me at first may have avoided buying him due to his swollen stomach appearance? He is pretty but i think if i buy any bettas off aquabid i'll go for some other betta, pretty as he is.

Sometimes you have to feed them to do a picture shoot. This is usually how I do it anyway. The fish,if hungry, has no interest in anything besdes looking at you if you don't. It's easiest to throw some food their way, wait a couple if minutes and then take pictures.

Especially with young, small bettas it doesn't take much food to swell their little stomachs... I've seen lots of bettas with such large bellies posted on Aquabid before. If anything, it usually means they're healthy and eating well ;)

Edit: BTW, hey Tokis! Long time no see :)

I've bought from him and the fish is lovely. The only complaint I have is that the fish never regained the colors he had in the photo so it apparently was enhanced. He's got grey in the tips rather than the black in the photo.

Now I did buy from another buyer and his fish was prettier than the actual photo he put up on Aquabid.

You know..photos don't have to be enhanced to misjudge the way a fish looks. Sometimes a fish has irridescence to it and when you take pictures of it..the colors change.

Take this fish for example

He looks extemely pretty and green, no?

Same fish, just taken from another angle...

And again, same fish with more natural light and no flash...

And here's the fish I got.....

This is probably a spawn brother as I can't see how it could change that much in a few days..... plus he was delayed a couple weeks. Tells a story but he's nice.

Wow that is a huge difference. It definitely doesn't look like the same fish to me, no matter what "color" he is, the patterning on those two fish are way off. I could be wrong, but i am agreeing with you on this, that doesnt' seem to be the same fish at all.
