Is Zeus Happy?

Hi all. Quick question about bubble nests for you. I got my Betta Zeus a couple of weeks ago and he has settled in very well. He is in a 28L fully cycled tank which has lots of silk plants in it and hidey holes. He spends all of his time at the front of his tank watching what I doing but when he can't see me he plays in amongst all the leaves. He is eating well, his shredded tail is healing and he seems very bold and curious which I can only assume are good signs. However I have read that when male bettas are happy in their enviroment they build bubble nests... I have never seen him blow so much as 1 bubble. Now I'm all worried that he isnt happy with the tank! Do all males blow bubbles? Could it be that he hasn't had enough time yet? Or is it possible that something isn't right with the tank?

Could be his age?

Could be a multitude of reasons.

I would not worry about it - does he appear otherwise happy?

No not all males do it, but this isn't an indication of unhappiness. If he's otherwise eating well and swimming well, inquisitive and generaly perky then you have no need to worry.

Duncan doesn't make bubblenests very often at all, and he's always been a happy chap. He "waves" at me in the morning when I switch his light on and feed him, and likes to hunt in his java moss mat for bits of food.

Bubblenesting is really just their instinct to breed coming out. Basically he's horny and is blowing a bubblenest in the hope of a girlfriend

My boys only really bubble nest if there are girls they can see ( my girls tank is next to the boys tank). I did have one who bubblenested all the time but most of mine very rarely blow any. From what you've said he sounds really happy, so dont worry about the bubbles, he'll do it when he's ready x

Yeah, most of my males only blow nests when there's a girl around too. Even if another male is present they won't. Good luck!

They don't all blow bubble nests, i have one that has never made one since i have had him, another that does every few weeks then one that does every few days, there all different

2 of my 6 don't blow bubblenests, but they don't look unhappy compared to the others, and your tank sounds lovely so i'm sure Zeus is a happy chappy

Fab thank all Was just having a panic about him. He comes up to the front of the tank and has a mini flare at me when he first sees me in a morning too It's very sweet. You have put my mind at ease!
