Is Your Tank "hard Work"?

The only hard work for me at the moment is researching lol, and trying to find out what plants I have in my tank. It is hard to stop myself thinking how a massive tank would be a great idea lol

No what you mean! I'm slightly worried - I've started my salty tank experiences with a 505L setup. Might take me more than a few hours first few times. :good:

my new reef tank sometimes feels like hard work, testing and changing etc can;t wait till its settled and easy!!

Nope, not hard work at all. It requires dedication and care but I really enjoy it. Sometimes I'll make work for myself by striping a tank down and re-arranging everything and that can take an hour or so, but it's still really good fun!

I find people assume it's much more hard work or much less work. Some people expect fishkeeping (when elevated above the goldfish + bowl + water level) to be really hard and time consuming to do right, especially as they probably don't know about the various tools we have to help us like gravel cleaners and others expect to be able to just leave a goldfish in a bowl for weeks and weeks with no water changes!

It's quite rare that someone actually is not surprised by the work involved.

There are occasions when its hard work, like doing a 50% water change on a 150 gallon tank with big buckets.

Other times when I've found fishkeeping hard... When fish become ill and die. Loosing £50 discus fish is hard...

And who says it ain't hard work..... I've just moved house with 40 tanks and 15,000 fish.... You wanna tell me that fish is not hard work???

Unless my fish are sick it's not hard once a week I do all my tanks then every month I clean the filters. Some people think dogs are lots of work I have 3 older dogs but still I don't think they are hard to care for. Now my 17 month old daughter ismuch harder then tending to my tanks.

Fish are not hard to care for sure it can be a chore but it is one chore I like. Putting laundry away now that's hard work oh how I hate to do it.

It all depends on what you think is work.

pssh all my tank needs is the occasional water change and a partial algae scrape down every other day

now whats hard is catching the little stinkers :p

Esp. if you have a well decorated tank and you're trying to catch a specific Zebra Danio in a 4ft tank... :grr:  :S

I don't find it hard work in the sense that 'it's not coal mining'-a phrase often used by older men in my area  But I don't find it easy. I don't look forward to cleaning out tanks and don't enjoy it. I make myself do it though, 25-50% change weekly. I much prefer my tanks with plastic plants in, 'cos I find cutting out dead leaves quite a depressing job. There's always some to cut out and although it does look good for a few days afterwards, the second half of the week, it looks ready for another clearout :/

Tell me about it . . . even a little female krib in a 65 litre tank is proving a pain. I will not take the plants out, dammnit!

i wouldnt say hard work as that implies physicaly demanding work but i would say it requires a cxertain level of dedication and commitment. my current setup im in the process of finisihing off will be the tank ive one that requires the most maintainence, but i think its a labour of love

i water change every week 50 percent for about 450 litres worth of tanks... so i shift about 225 litres .... but im quite ripped anyway so its not a problem ;)

Just reading your userid.... That's hard work.... what on earth does it mean???.. (I'm too lazy to Google that word)... but I'm sure it means something??

Synodontis multipunctatus is a Lake Tanganyika catfish :)
