Right as I began to type a reply Mia fell in the toilet :|. Maybe insurance is something I should consider for these clutzes???

I'm lucky. My mother loves animals as well, and will pay for their care if there is an emergency. She spent well over $300 on a $15 parakeet getting him X-rays and God only knows what else one time... luckily it was just a respiratory infection and he made a full recovery, but escaped later that same year thanks to a poorly-designed cage with a faulty door

Vet bills I just put them on the farm account.

Both my cats are insured, was starting to think it was a waste of money until one of them broke three bones in their foot and needed treatment. The current bill is around £800, but would have been much much worse if he'd needed an operartion as first thought

Sasha is with Tescos but I will be looking at M&S now you said they don't have an excess!

Hi Suzie

M&S do have excess, but you pay less. They give you a choice. But when I compared the monthly payments not having excess works out about £1.50 more a month then having excess. I think it's worth it especialy when you have smaller vets bills. I think M&S are the only ones that insure your pet for £7000 each year, not per illness.

M&S has lost my respect big time. You can pay extra to lose the excess, which we did ... there still is a minimum payment of £50 per treatment, umm ok? The first year they gave us a brilliant quote, and we happily paid it. Then when time came around to renew, even though we had not once claimed or anything, they *doubled* our payment per month. We ended up paying more for the dog insurance on his own than we paid for the dog and the cat before renewal came around. Needless to say, we (after much trouble I might add) cancelled our 'contract' with them rather than re-new. Our cat is still insured with them until the year is up.

The dog is now insured with MoreThan, slightly more expensive than M&S (and I do mean slightly, just pennies a month) but we like them better so far. Like Miss Wiggles said before, most will not re-new a 'contract' if the pet has fallen ill during the previous term of insurance, MoreThan does continue to re-new their 'contract' with you and will keep paying as long as treatment is necessary.

Their letters have also taken 2 weeks to arrive, all of them, not a one off thing. If that's how long they take to sort things, I don't think the claims would have come through quickly either. No good words left for them I'm afraid.

we've got 3 rabbits.... there are only 2 people in the UK that will insure them - they cost us £300 a year for the 3!

We were considering canceling about a month ago as the money would be handy at the moment... then a few days later one of them fell Ill :(

Bit of a shot across the bow to be honest and we wont be canceling - at the moment were up to about £80 in vets fees and meds.... hopefully he'll be alright and back to his normal grumpy self before long...

A minimum payment of £50? well that's more then my excess at Tesco's, we are liable for the first £45 for Sasha, and I love that they call her by her first and middle name, the last letter we got was addressed to "Sasha Lee"

I shouldn't think I will be changing then, no excess to me means no payment. We have always had insurance for her and we have never used it. She's amazingly healthy. She's only had a wee infection once and the total bill was £58 - not worth claiming for £13. Her payments are about £10 a month and she's seven now.
