I have a 2 foot tank currently housing 3 neons and 1 small plec.
I am currently cycling the water and i reckon in about a week we should be 'ready to go!'..
I have been wandering round my LFS who have the most gorgeous Discus in, and they advised me that in this size tank I can have 2 small Discus.
I know many LFS give out contradictory info in comparison with the experts on here - so i have just come back to clarify this!
My tank also has a heater, and tomorrow I shall lay my sand substrate and a few plants in the week.
I aim on adding a handful of real plants and seeing how I get on with these.
Also - I have a fluval pump with a long airstone - would the discus not like that ? I know they can have probs with the flow / current of water ?
ANy advice / guidance gratefully received :)

2 discus need 120 litres any less and it will stunt their growth, 40 litres per discus but i do that calculation once i have 40 litres of spare space, plus 80 litres on top so a extra 40 litres for movement and growing remember a well looked after discus will grow to a good 8"s sometimes bigger.

Just to add a new setup is never a good idea for discus

Nope no Discus, tank is much too small. A minimum group of 5-6 need to be kept, definitley not two unless they are a confirmed breeding pair. These will empty your wallet.

BTW why are you cycling a tank with Neons!?

Thanks
I guess my discus idea is now out the window then..
I havent the space for a larger tank at the moment

I'm cycling the tank with neons as I took it off someone who had bascially neglected it and the fish were facing the end result of a toilet basically
I took on the tank, fish, accessories basically and so decided to start 'afresh' and once all settled perhaps add a few more fish!
Is it wrong to cycle with neons?

Thanks

Its not wrong if you believe in "fish in cycle" its just you want to cycle with hardy fish such as zebra danios and goldifsh etc, neons are seen to be too sensitive and therefore die before the tank is cycled.

Ok. That makes sense. Was simply trying to improve the water quality for the poor little fishes..didnt realise about cycling with hard / non-hardy fish!
