looks like a female to me but you never know, the LFS said mine was a girl and he/she gets along great with females but any male and he/she goes nuts which in turn makes me feel it's a male...

You sure its not the White Skirt Tetras? They went for everything when I put them in my tank, so now they are in a species tank!

I thought only females who were sisters got along peacefully? if the fish is a male it could be a throwback to wild-type (originally all bettas had short fins and tails). seems like separating it is a good idea regardless. Try looking at its belly and seeing if you can see an egg-spot/ovipositor. males shouldn't have anything underneath.

Also females do flare at males. its a sign that she is attracted to him.

well the jar the betta in question was in did not specify if it was a male or female, they said that it was female, but to me, it looks like a male, the betta in question only flares at my male bettas, the females he just leaves alone...for now

Totally irrelevant, but I love the shape of that tank. May I ask what type it is, the model or company or something?

I think its very likely that shes female. females will flare at males if they are ready to breed. if it was male the females it shares the tank with would almost certainly have an issue with it, and vice versa.

I dont think its the white skirts i used to have a male in there in sted and he was fine tail never ripped i know it has to be this other female her tail and fins are the only one that are whole not even a slight tear and ive seen her chase the others quite fearsly hhhhmmmm

Also i only have 3 for now i am buying more when i get paid i know about spreading the aggression i had things come up so thats why i couldnt buy any more :)

Are u talkin about my tank onidrase? If so no idea what it is i got is second hand with two tones of gravel ( two 30l buckets full) filter air pump heater lights etc for £60) but i have no idea what it is only that of cause its bowed shape 2.5ft high 3ft long 1.5 width holding 250L

It looks like a female.

Try putting her in a breeders net for a few days (in the same tank) to see if it calms her down (effectively you are putting her on the 'naughty step'). See if that calms her down.

hi doodle i tried that for an hour yesterday but her nice dark colors turned in to thorny fear stripes i felt so bad ans cruel doing it ill watch her the next few days if i notice any more damage or aggression (that isnt normal betta) ill pt her on the naughty step again lol :)

yeh but as i stated before i dont have the money atm just didnt know if there was any way to calm her down for now ?
