Is This Pleco Poo?

How often will he do this? I mean he was in the cave all yesterday since it was a new tank, so he musta came out overnight, then i found all that.

Thats a tonne of poop

omg if you think that is bad you should try keeping common plecos, geesh, some days the tank looks like the aftermath of an explosion in an knitting wool factory! but i do have 3!!

you think that's a tonne? Try having 4x L144, 1 whiptail, 1x L091, 1x L266 & 4xL260 - now that's poop. It's pretty much non stop and the minute I finish my sand vac, there's already some more. The joys of owning catfish

Yeah that's mild poop compared to panaque owners....mine crap vast amounts all day long.

Good filtration is the key...

In our ilving room tank we have a total of 10 plecs (all under 4") and there are no patches of poo :)

I used to have plecs and soon will again, but what I also found was that if my filter spraybar was had the holes pointed forward (from the back glass panel) the current went foward, then down and then to the sides, taking the poop with it.

Therefore the poop wasbeing transported directly to the plants, and was a ready made fertiliser.

And the front of the tank was pretty darn clean all the time.

actually, a pretty good idea. figure out a way to get most of the current going to one spot in the tank and it should all be easy from there. Someone says filtration is the key, I have 3 big external filters on my 55 gallon and i have to say it does help a lot with the poo lol. Good idea though supercoley.

 I agree.
We have 2 external filters running on our tank and with regular cleaning, we don't have a problem with poop!

I don't clean my grave, and never have. and still don't have problems with the poo! a simple wave of the hand over the gravel, lifts and breaks up the poo, and anything else down there. some does drop back to the bottom, some is eaten by the fish but most is pulled through the filter. the gravel is an important part of MY filtration system, so cleaning it would cause problems.

Yuk this is digusting. Maybe he is sick or something. I cant believe it.

Yeah i think i need an external filter, but cant afford one atm. Which isnt good because my ammonia levels are raising off 0, it was at 0.25, first signs of anything since cycling, nitrite and nitrate levels fine though. Did a 30% water change but that didnt help much. I vacced all the poop out yesterday though with the clean, im guessin the Plec is the reason why the ammonia has gone up because none of the other fish crap that much.

yup, either a mini cycle from the extra bio load or the filter simply can't cope and needs upgrading

20% daily water changes every day that you get any readong other than 0 for ammonia or nitrite

Yeah. Im after a Tetratec EX600, which will go through my water 7.5 times per hour compared with the 3.3 i have now. Just needing the money :( Good thing is though, when i do get it, it uses the same media as whats in my dads, so il pinch some of his and chuck all the media out of this filter in.

I have some sort of scum on the top of my water so il guess il do that 20% water change now. Thanks M.W.
