Poo.jpg

I just got this tank yesterday, transfered everything over but put new sand in, so everything was clean. Fish have been in since about 5pm yesterday, and i wake up this morning to find that under the bogwood where the Clown Plec is.

Is it poo? Or bits of bogwood?

If its poo, omg

Rofl.. I have no idea, but that's hilarious. If that is poo.. MAN... I read that plecs are heavy waste producers but sheesh...

Hahaha, i really hope its not...i just picked up a small bn pleco today for my 55 gallon, theres no way i will find the poop in my tank!! oh no!!!

I'd say it was poo, whenever I move my bit of bogwood the poo underneath is unbelievable! The odd time I've forgotten to move it and suck the poo out when doing a water change I've paid for it, I'll have a nice clean tank, pour water back in and all the poo from under that bit of wood comes splaying out and makes the tank look messy again LOL! I have 2 tiny bn plecs and the amount of poo they make is ridiculous!

hello again azaezl!!
as you well know i just got a small little bn. Is this really something i am going to have to worry about. like i said the bn is about 1.5 inches long. How often would you recommend vaccuming the gravel? I just think its going to be hard for me to vaccum underneath the wood and rocks because i have a lot of wood and rock hidng places. it would be a pain to have to move these a lot. Any advice? thanks in advance, you are always helpful.

Hi poopsydrew. I have a tiger pleco and he is a messy guy.Like you i have lots of rocks and plants so you will find it hard to get all the poo.I clean the gravel
1 to 2 times a week this helps alot to keep the tank looking clean. Good luck with the poo scooping.

I have sand in all my tanks so it's quite easy for me to see where the poo is, I do water changes twice a week and usually vac every other day, depending on how bad it is. I found the easiest thing to do is vac around everything and then carefully lift each bit of wood / cave and clean under it. I guess it will be alot harder for you because you have gravel, it's easy for me because I can see all the poo as it stays on top, maybe vac 2 / 3 times a week, not really sure, sorry. One of my bn's is 1.5 inches the other is 2 inches and they make alot of mess so yes I'm afraid your going to have a lot more poo to deal with.

Thanks guys!!
Its ok, i love the guy enough to clean up his poo! Nowhere else but this forum could i ever ask that question. I will make sure to do water changes twice a week and vaccuum often! thanks again guys...any idea how fast they grow? i know they get from 4-6 inches or so i have read, just wondering how fast they grow?

ah the great poo question   get used to it and plenty more. :)

you may also end up with a fine brown "dust" over the sand too - Panaques rash away at their bog wood and when its pooed out it breaks up into a fine wodd dust.... everywhere!

Thanks for the info. Damn, when i knew they pooped bad, but thats crazy from just overnight!!!!! Good job i love plecs.
