Is this parasite?

Many thanks @Colin_T
One of the panda corydoras sadly passed away due to weight loss. Noticed one or two panda corydoras have slightly clamped bottom fins.

Odessa barbs and a few tetras are the ones with stringy poop that I’ve noticed. They do appear normal otherwise at the moment.

In normal cases I’d avoid adding chemicals to the tank but considering all the above I think it’s best to treat it.

eSha gdex and -ndx are the recommended treatments here in the UK.

I have started with gdex as it treat flukes and tapeworm. For tape worm the recommendation is to repeat the treatment after 8 days.

I’m fairly new to this so hopefully everything would be ok.

I used eSHa ndx and gdex to treat worms in my tanks, and they certainly worked for me, the ones who had become sickly recovered, and the losses stopped. I hope you have the same success!

Thanks, that definitely sounds positive fingers crossed.

It’s unfortunate that I had water issues, which I’ve now fixed, quickly followed by what appears to be parasite issue but this is all part of the experience.

I’ve definitely learnt a lot and hopefully going forward things will improve.

Quick question , if I need to carry out water change during dosing period do I top up the dose to how much water was changed?

eSha instructions says 1 drop per litre.
Say I’m on Day 2 where I’m supposed to dose 75 drops but I needed to change 30 litres of water.
Does this mean I should dose 105 drops instead?

Do you need to do a water change? I did changes immediately before dosing the tank, so didn't need to during the dosing period. If I changed 30 litres out on day two, I'd redose the replacement 30 litres, so I'd add 30 drops to the replacement water.

Thanks. In eSha document it does say that need to replace proportional amount after water change.

I’m hoping I don’t need to carry out any water changes but I suspect my tank is going through mini cycle as nitrite jumped to 0.25 ppm after few days.

I test everyday and hopefully everything is ok until a Day 5 when a water change is recommend.

I’m guessing I’ll still need to add de chlorinator during water change even if I plan to dose again in 3 days? eSha recommends repeating dose in Day 8 for tapeworms, with Day 5 being the water change for first dose.

Yes, you'd still need declorinator, not sure how you'd do that if you have to change during the dosing, hopefully @essjay can advise. I don't think the declorinator matters if it's used on day five, before new doses of meds on day eight, since mos declorinators seem to work for 24 hours before becoming inactive, by which time your filter should have processed stuff/chlorine has gassed off? Eh, no entirely sure how it all works, I'm rubbish at chemistry! @HoldenOn is good at chemistry too, maybe he knows!

Yes yes, wait. No. No I'm not. Stop that right now.

Thanks again @AdoraBelle Dearheart .
Its a bit confusing if I have to change water during dosing. Let’s hope not as there’s nothing in the documentation regarding this.

I suppose I’ll still add dechlorinator just in case.

edit: I've emailed eSha for some guidance. Watch this space!

So it’s been about 6 hours since first dose and I noticed that the barbs doesn’t immediately poop stringy poop after feeding. The fish also seem to school more now.

Nerrite snails and bamboo shrimp still alive.

Fingers crossed this is a good sign. I might consider skipping second dose if stringy poop stops by Day 5.

When you do a water change on a day that medication is due to be added, do the water change, then add the medication.
On a non-dose day, add enough medication to treat the volume of new water to bring it back up to strength in the tank.

Always add dechlorinator for the volume of new water. For some reason, eSHa doesn't like dechlorinators.

The best way of using meds is to do a big water change just before the first dose so you don't need to do a water change till after the course has finished.

Awesome! That’s very clear thanks!

I did a big water change before meds but just preparing in case I need to do a water change in between doses

You are using gdex at the moment aren't you? The instructions say to do a water change on day 5 of up to 50%. And if necessary, repeat the three day treatment starting on day 8.

With ndx, it's a 1 dose course and you do a big water change after 24 hours; and if necessary repeat 14 days after the first dose.
