Is this normal?

Lately Ive noticed that entire (branches?) from my Amzon Sword have been coming off, and it looks like the ends where they detached have been gnawed off. The only fish that hangs around there is my extremely shy Pacu. Is he the one eating my plant? If so, maybe that explains why he never comes out to during feeding time. I was wondering how he wasnt dead yet from not eating?

Your pacu is the culprit....

Pacu's are herbivores for the most part and just love to eat plants. The only way to get around this is to have plastic plants or no plants at all.

Another option is to buy cheap plants that you won't mind your pacu eating.

You could also try some plants with tougher leaves which your pacu may leave alone.

I am not into plants, but if you post a question concerning this is the forum "How does your garden grow" I am sure Rose would be happy to give you some suggestions.

As stated in an earlier post about Pacu's...what size tank is it in because these guys grow BIG!!! The red belly can grow up to 2ft+ and the black Pacu can get up to 3ft+. Hope you have a HUGE tank

cichlidmaster had a good suggestion, ask rose. for the most part swords and grasses are just a salad bar to these fish. try some of the worts. mine dig them up, but don't eat them.

how big is the pacu? there is a cichlid club in ohio i am sure that cichlidmaster could get you the address for them. maybe someone there would like to adopt your pacu. also, contact local aquariums or zoos, depending on his size they may want to take him.
