Is this kind of tank any good for a betta ?

1 gallon is the absolute min for a betta
but IMO that is not suitable.

The bowl is cute and all that but it doesn't have a lid and by the time you pay the shipping etc etc...,you'd already have spent as much as going to a local shop and buying a small tank.

i dunno if you were planning on getting that particular one but you can get those exact same tanks for like £3.00 pretty much anywhere.

also, I notice you are in sunny england , do you have a room that's warm 24/7 to put him in winter?

The tank is not suitable or 1 gallon is not suitable ?
both
but it is just my opinion.

there's no heater in the tank. so like someone said, there's no way you'd be able to get it to tropical temperatures.

Yeah the rooms warm all year round. so much so that the temp gauge is currently reading 27 degrees without the heating running and the windows being flung open. (Room has hot water pipes running underneath the floor boards and a kitchen below)

No local petsmart, just a pets at home who want £9 for this kind of bowl hence why I took interest in the £5 bowl on ebay.

If its not suitable then I wont bother.

Pets at Home have a gorgeous dark red betta at the moment for £3.99 but I wont buy him If I dont have a suitable bowl / tank

He seemed happy enough and very active in the 2ish gallon tank they keep bettas in.

Hiya, im not sure wot attracted you to that small bowl, but my lfs have big, 3 gallon bowls, that u can make lids for, which wud be alot more suitable, but their glass, and abt £20.

Although a low cost betta bowl is wot your looking for, id say pay that lil bit extra, and get a bigger home 4 him, or he will get depressed and then get ill.

hope this helps

Hi Rich,

I think that the bowl is Fine.

Mine are in Cookie Jars and they are Smaller than those.

DO you Have a Wilkinson store where you are???????

They sell these Bowls @ £1.80 Each and all the Accessories are also Available.

Pen Plax Air pumps are Only £5.00.

And they have Lovely Silk Feathery Plants, that The Bettas Love.

Hey psgill

I think i know the plants you mean...the ones that are 99p a packet? I got them for my friend's tank, her betta and cories love them :D

RichT if you can keep the temp high enoguh ALL year round, I dont see why it would be a problem except that you need a better lid for it. although I personally prefer to keep them in a bit more than 1g. :/

if you have a good lfs near you, you might be able to find something better - mine has 2.5g plastic tanks with lids and as far as I remember they're less than £5, and 5g glass tanks for about £8.

good luck with whatever you pick :)

Yeah they only ever have four bettas on show at one time in this particular pet superstore, they might even be 3 gallon im just guessing

Its about 3/4 the size of mine so yeah more like 3 US gallon tanks

Wow,the UK bettas live large!
Were you being sarky? I'll presume you weren't :D in which case it might interest you to know that bettas here (in my area, at least) are usually kept in way more than two gallons - they are usually in at least 10g and when I took my friend to buy hers there were a few in 15-20g tanks. (by looks anyway)
