Hi, I have read the pinned thread in the other section of the forum. However I am unsure if my fish has ICK.

Yesterday I added a discus into the tank. I have no quaranteen tank so was unable to do that. Today, on the top of its left side, just under its fin I can see a single small raised 'grain like' dot. It looks like is has a bit of dandruf stuck to him :) This spot is 'attached' edge on - the same way a coin would look if attached by its curved edge.

There are no other 'spots' present on this fish on any other. Is it likely that this is ICK?

If so, all the shops are shut now and I can't get any meditation until tomorrow. Also I work on Sundays so won't be able to treat the tank until tomorrow evening. Would this pose a problem?

Again - I am not sure if this is white spot as there is only the one single 'spot'...

Here's my water parameters:

Ph - 7.4 (the shops Ph was 7.2 so not a large difference for this tank bred discus)
Am - 0.0
Ni - 0.0
Na - 15
Kh - 13

The discus is swimming around happily enough and its fins are not clenched...

No flicking or rubbing, he seems fine.

I actually no notice there are two other much smaller white spots on him. Guess that means whitespot then... :/

It seems likely to be ich. Wilder has given you a good reference on ich and there is another in my signature. The facts in both places agree well but there are some differences in the suggested treatment.

Ok thanks for the info. Gonna start the treatment process now then...

Also this may be a paranoid question - but with Ick is it ok for me to put my hands in the water?

Ich infects fish, not people. The parasite cannot survive being dried out so once your hands are out of the tank and toweled off they don't stand a chance.

Raise temp to 30.
Don't forget to increase aeration with the high temp and med as it reduces 02 in the water.
Don't forget to remove black carbon from filter if you use it.
Good luck.

Thanks Wilder.

The highest I can raise the temp I think is to 28. I have a few fish - bristlenose for example - that would struggle at 30. Plus it may kill some plants

Bottom dwellers can cope with the high temp as long as there plenty of aeration in the tank.
