They stay small but personally it may not be worth the gamble. Pygmy cories are able to be eaten by fish the size of bettas. They max out at 1.1 inches.

Again, just one person's opinion, but to answer your question the one I circled sort of "busies up" the look. Should look more naturally random, if that makes sense.
